Baltimore kept the British out of the harbor. Odesa is now protecting the Black Sea/Ukraine, and thousands of years of history!

While Ukraine welcomes the decision, Russia says Unesco's move is "politically motivated".

This September, the UMBC Center for Global Engagement (CGE) and English Language Institute (ELI) will be hosting a delegation of Ukrainian cybersecurity professionals for a week-long exchange. The delegates in this group are taking part in the congressionally sponsored Open World program, which brings young political and civic leaders from Eurasia and other countries to the United States for short-term professional trips.

Established by Congress in 1999 on a bipartisan basis, the Open World program also aids Congress with interparliamentary and other legislative activities, and links Members of Congress to Eurasian leaders and is an instrument for Americans engaged in citizen diplomacy.

The exchange visit will give the delegates a chance to connect with UMBC’s team, professionals in the field, elected officials and other members of the cybersecurity community in the region.

While here, UMBC is looking for volunteer host families that would be interested in sponsoring one of the delegates for the week and could help them get to and from campus between September 23 and October 1.

If you are interested, please reach out to Madison Pickard ([email protected]) who is coordinating the homestay opportunities.

Get your tickets to The Train Odessa-Mama here! The Train Odessa-Mama is a tale steeped in authentic Odesa-based, Ukrainian-Jewish humor, and is about love between two very different people: Misha Muhemzon, a Jewish man in his 50s and still lives with his mother, and Natalka Horobetz, a stunning Ukrainian beauty who is both determined and stubborn.
