We are Committed, Organized, and Responsible, which are all critical qualities needed to accomplish our mission: to improve the quality of life and wellbeing for young people. Spearheaded by community leader and visionary Munir Bahar, COR began as a mentorship program in 2002. It has since grown into a coalition of community assets and initiatives benefitting an East Baltimore neighborhood, includ
ing the COR Health Institute and the William L. We have a variety of programs, initiatives, and institutions that improve public safety, encourage preventative health, engage local youth, teach business education, repurpose abandoned properties, and more. COR Community is focused on transforming the landscape of our neighborhood. We repurpose vacant homes, once used for drug activity, to serve as community institutions. We are currently working on our second major reconstruction initiative — The William L. Adams Entrepreneurial Institute (WAEI) — which is under construction and located on the 1100 block of N. Our current headquarters, the COR Health Institute, was created to serve young people and help them stay healthy, mentally and physically - integrating preventative health into the fabric of our neighborhood. The COR Health Institute was built using four vacant properties on the 1200 block of North Collington Avenue and is now a thriving health center attracting a variety of visitors from within and outside of the neighborhood. Executive Director Munir Bahar has been positively impacting Baltimore for 19 years, and to date over 500 youth from the area have been served through our parent nonprofit, KEYS Development, Inc. which was established by Bahar in 2003. Bahar is a graduate from Morgan State University. Well-versed in problem solving and taking action, Munir Bahar also co-founded a national movement against gun violence, the 300 Men March, in 2013. Bahar has served as the lead contractor for our initiatives towards rebuilding vacant properties. Bahar is a resident, business owner, and community leader residing in the zip code 21213 — the same area served by COR. Munir Bahar continues to address problems in his neighborhood by building the solution: the COR Community.
