Introducing the Next Generation of STEM Leaders!

Today, we shine the spotlight on Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett.

Dr. Corbett is a trailblazing researcher and the scientific lead for the Coronavirus Vaccines & Immunopathogenesis Team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Vaccine Research Center (VRC). Her journey began with a B.S. in Biological Sciences, with a secondary major in Sociology, from the University of Maryland–Baltimore County, where she excelled as a Meyerhoff Scholar and an NIH undergraduate scholar. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014.

Today, Dr. Corbett heads her own laboratory in the department of immunology and infectious diseases, while also actively contributing to the NIH Fellows Committee and serving as a global public speaker and advocate for STEM education and vaccine awareness.

Dr. Corbett embodies the face of success in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers, inspiring countless others to pursue their passions and make a difference in the world of science. Join us at MOEF Foundation in celebrating her achievements and the bright future of STEM!

Top 7 Factors to Consider When Choosing a Medical School.🩺👩‍💻

🌟Location: Consider the location of the medical school in terms of proximity to family, lifestyle preferences, and opportunities for clinical rotations.

🌟Academic Reputation: Look into the school’s academic reputation, faculty expertise, research opportunities, and residency match rates.

🌟Your GPA and MCAT

🌟Pass/Fail Grading: Consider whether the medical school uses a Pass/Fail grading system or a traditional letter grading system. Pass/Fail grading can reduce competition and foster a collaborative learning environment.

🌟Financial Aid and Tuition: Consider the cost of attendance, availability of scholarships, grants, and financial aid packages, as well as the school’s commitment to supporting students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

🌟Diversity and Inclusion: Look for a medical school that values diversity and inclusion, with initiatives to support underrepresented minority students, promote cultural competency, and address health

🌟Student Support Services: Explore the availability of student support services, such as academic advising, mentorship programs, mental health resources, and wellness initiatives.

When choosing where to apply for medical school, consider these factors holistically to find the program that aligns best with your personal and professional goals.

We at the Marlene Okojie Educational Foundation (MOEF) are honored to join women and individuals worldwide in commemorating International Women’s Day under the theme ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’

This International Women’s Month, let’s come together to transform these challenges into opportunities and shape a better future for all!
