Someone who is bleeding severely can die in minutes. The person standing next to them can change that.

That has been the whole idea behind Stop the Bleed. Since 2017, our R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma team has trained nearly 39,000 Marylanders in every county to act in the moments that matter most. Looking back on that work, what stands out is not just the number. It is the real team effort behind every training, and the communities are made safer as a result.

The work is not finished, and you can be part of it. If you have not been trained yet, now is the time. Learn how you can help save a life: https://www.umm.edu/stopthebleed

Some people lift the whole room just by showing up. Dr. Michael Allison is one of them.

Congratulations to Dr. Allison in Critical Care at UM St. Joseph Medical Center, a Sunflower Award winner. The Sunflower Award recognizes team members across the hospital who go above and beyond in their daily work and have a positive impact on everyone around them.

What earned him the honor is something we hold onto across our system: the commitment to bounce back. To take ownership of the hard days, see when someone else is struggling and steady them, and bring a positive attitude to the work because that is what our patients and our colleagues deserve.
Dr. Allison, thank you for being exactly that kind of presence. Well-deserved.
