President Biden’s sweeping executive order titled “Creating a Comprehensive Regional Framework to Address the Causes of Immigration, to Manage Migration Throughout North and Central America, and to Provide Safe and Orderly Processing of Asylum Seekers at the United States Border” orders the secretary of homeland security to review some of the punitive policies put in place by the Trump administration. The order also aims to create a comprehensive regional framework to address the root causes of migration. It will not immediately lift the obstacles in place for those seeking asylum, but it is the first step. The Asylum Ban imposed last October was lifted on his first day in office.
