Day 2 Morning Update: Schooner LADY MARYLAND and her professional and student crew are currently motor sailing and passing the mouth of the Potomac River. They have been underway for over 24 hours, and everyone is doing great.
Due to the light-wind conditions during this race, the distance left to get to Norfolk, and the forecast heavy wind late Friday, the Race Committee has decided to shorten the course and Captain LP has decided it is more important to reach Norfolk on time and before the coming windy weather. We may not officially be in the race anymore, but the students are still steering the vessel, navigating, trimming the sails, and standing watch. This is still the adventure of a lifetime and everyone is in high spirits.
A huge thanks to all our generous donors who made this experience possible for these ten students!
