2 YEARS POST TRANSPLANT…TODAY 💚💚
It started with a call from my donor’s sister this morning and I cannot believe the strength, courage, and grace she showed me.

Many who know my story, know that I am survivor of
1- End Stage Renal Disease
2- 4 years of hemodialysis
3- 2 years of peritoneal dialysis
4- 2 kidney transplants‼️

I have lived a life longer as a kidney disease survivor than not

I strive to be kind to people because I literally KNOW that strangers CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE‼️

I am thankful and grateful for all of my life’s experiences and would not trade a single thing.
Here’s to many more years of honoring my donor and his family for their sacrifice by continuing to be the bad ass I AM 🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️

My resilience is my super power
I can think of so many points in my life when the folks who didn’t know my story, believed they could count me out

I don’t blame them! They had no clue that I have literally made a career of COMING BACK from defeat and set backs

This is what I do‼️
I make a way where most not dare try

I ask students this question often
“What’s your super power?”

TO MY FIRST KIDNEY TRANSPLANT
Happy would have been 18th anniversary

As a kidney disease survivor
Gratitude is at the center of all I do

Grateful for life - ALWAYS‼️
But also, for the selfless act from my cousin who gave me a shot at a life full of possibilities

Transplant #1 afforded me 15 years of health to pursue my dreams
➡️A college education
➡️ A PharmD
➡️ A residency training
➡️ A life of freedom free from dialysis

I want to urge each of you to consider being registered organ donors

My gift lasted 15 amazing years before failing
Today is just a day of reflection and to raise awareness about an issue near and dear to me heart 💚

TART with the difficult things first 💪🏾
That for me, is ALWAYS the gym 🏋🏾‍♀️😭

BUT, anytime I begin my day at the gym, I feel like I am already winning at the day.

Not because I’m killing it in there or anything LOL
But because what scares me the most, and the thing I dread the most- IS DONE‼️

And that is a pretty powerful thing

Beginning each day grateful, focused, and doing something I don’t enjoy but absolutely NEED has helped reshape how I show up in the world everyday.

One of the most amazing experiences of my life to date.
Despite being married for almost 4 years, this was the first time meeting my husband’s brothers. It was nothing short of amazing. I’m so blessed to continue to live a life full of so many blessings. I am grateful 💚
