EmpowerH.E.R. Success Story

One of our amazing EmpowerH.E.R. young ladies recently completed The Joy of Living's EmpowerH.E.R. Mentoring & Leadership Program and shared how the program impacted her life:

"My name is Purity, and EmpowerH.E.R. helped me grow because it made me more confident, and no one is judging you no matter what you do or think. One thing that I learned in EmpowerH.E.R. is that I can be creative. EmpowerH.E.R. helped me prepare for my future because it made me more confident in myself. EmpowerH.E.R. Field Experience: Museum of Illusions & Washington, D.C.

This Saturday, June 13th, our EmpowerH.E.R. young ladies enjoyed a truly amazing experience at the Museum of Illusions, followed by time exploring the beautiful streets of Washington, D.C.

What a powerful day of learning, laughter, and connection, where our girls were reminded that sometimes things are not always as they appear, but with the right perspective, anything is possible.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parents who came out to support and chaperone; you help make these moments possible.

Special appreciation to our dedicated staff member, Demetrius, for stepping up and ensuring the day ran smoothly with care, leadership, and excellence.

And a huge thank you to our transportation driver, Mr. Miles, for giving his time on a Saturday to safely transport our young ladies to and from the museum.

Moments like these remind us that EmpowerH.E.R. is more than a program; it is a community, a village, and a vision in action.

PACKING HOPE, ONE BAG AT A TIME

This past Saturday, The Joy of Living was honored to partner with Valley Brook Community Church to assemble blessing bags filled with essential items, encouragement, and hope for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.

Together, volunteers came together with hearts of compassion and a shared commitment to serving others. Every blessing bag represents more than just supplies; it represents dignity, kindness, and the reminder that someone cares.

We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in our community and to work alongside amazing partners who share our mission of spreading hope and love. Small acts of kindness can create a lasting impact, and together we are helping to brighten lives one blessing bag at a time.

Creating Memories That Matter

At The Joy of Living, we believe that every child deserves opportunities to experience joy, make memories, and be celebrated for their hard work.

A special thank you to Tickets for Kids for providing tickets for one of our EmpowerH.E.R. families to attend the Baltimore Orioles game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards! Because of your generosity, ZyNara, one of our EmpowerH.E.R. young ladies, her mother, Ms. Boone, and their family were able to enjoy an unforgettable day together cheering on the Orioles.

Opportunities like this serve as a wonderful reward for their dedication and a reminder that their efforts do not go unnoticed.

For many families, experiences like attending a professional baseball game are simply out of reach. Thanks to the support of organizations like Tickets for Kids, special moments become possible, family bonds are strengthened, and children are encouraged to keep reaching for their dreams.

Today, The Joy of Living, Inc. honors and remembers the brave women and men who have served and sacrificed their lives. We pay special tribute to the women of the past, present, and future who continue to serve with courage, strength, and dedication, along with all service members who risk their lives for our nation.

As we gather with family and friends on this Memorial Day, we may never forget the heroes rooted in compassion, unity, dignity, and hope for all people. Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and blessed holiday.

Today, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to our incredible partners who continue to stand beside us and support our mission to serve families and communities across Maryland.

A very special thank you to Valley Brook Community Church for their unwavering love, generosity, and commitment to helping others. Through their partnership, we have been able to provide blessing bags for individuals experiencing homelessness throughout Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, and Silver Spring, Maryland.

They have also played a vital role in helping us provide food giveaways and stock local school pantries in Howard County to support students and families in need.

Your kindness, compassion, and servant hearts truly make a difference in so many lives. We could not continue our programs and outreach efforts without the support of community partners like you who believe in our mission and the power of giving back.
