They look happy.

They look successful.

They look like they have it all together.

They are real people who were probably smiling in someone’s photo the week before.

But looks don’t tell the full story.

Every year… every month… every week… every day…
men are losing battles that nobody else even knew they were fighting.

Money doesn’t fix it.

Fame doesn’t fix it.

Status doesn’t fix it.

Silence hides it.

And too many men are suffering in that silence.

Check on your people.

Not just a “you good?” text… have a real conversation.

Because sometimes the strongest ones are the ones carrying the most.

And if you are going through something…
speak.

There is strength in that.

This is exactly why spaces for men matter.

If you are in the Baltimore area, we have a space built exactly for this. PYT Men’s University is a room where men can come, breathe, talk, and be real with each other. No judgment. No performance. Just real conversation.

📍 Liberty Elementary
Thursday April 16th at 4:30 PM

📍 Arundel Elementary
Next Thursday April 23rd at 8:30 AM

You don’t have to carry everything alone.

Come through. Bring somebody with you who needs it.

We already miss this group.

Week after week, we watched them open up, grow, and step into who they’re capable of becoming. That’s the part people don’t always see… the relationships, the trust, the consistency.

And then the last session comes, and you realize how much was built in a short amount of time.

People always ask us, what is the program about… what do you actually teach?

We can explain it.
But we’d rather you hear it from them.

One student said he learned you don’t always have to be the class clown.
Another said he learned that ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law.

That’s the work.

Handshakes Over Handcuffs is built to meet youth where they are. Every group is different, so every delivery is intentional. We listen first, then tailor the experience to address the real needs in the room.

We build rapport.
We show them we care.
Then we challenge them.

We push confidence.
We teach accountability.
We create space for leadership to show up.

Our full curriculum is 12 weeks, but this group was 8.
And still… the impact speaks for itself.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with these young men and to partner with in pouring into them.

We’ll be back soon.

Until then, we carry these moments with us… and we trust they’re carrying the lessons with them.

This is Preparing Youth for Tomorrow.
This is Handshakes Over Handcuffs.

This is what real accountability looks like.

During this session, every student in the room raised their hand and said they want to go Division 1.

Then the standard was introduced.

Our friend Phil Blackwell has been there.

West Baltimore native. Poly alum. Played at West Virginia and competed for a National Championship. Drafted into both the MLB and NFL. Super Bowl champion.

Now he evaluates talent at the highest level as a scout with the Big Ten and Big 12, and serves as an NFL Regional Combine Director.

But he is not just qualified to speak because of where he is and what he has accomplished.

He is qualified because of where he comes from.

From this city. From these environments. From the same seats these students are sitting in right now, once trying to figure out the same question they’re asking… how do I get out and come up.

Fresh off the plane from the NFL Combine, he came straight to speak with our students

Not to impress them.
To prepare them.

Because real preparation requires truth.

At the next level, talent is not enough.

How you carry yourself matters.
Who you surround yourself with matters.
What you allow around you matters.

The message was clear.

You can have a circle of influence
or you can sit in a cage of limitations.

And sometimes the difference is what you tolerate.

This was not about putting anyone down.
This was about raising the standard.

Because in rooms where real opportunities exist, everyone is being evaluated.

Not just your ability
Your mindset
Your discipline
Your focus

This is Preparing Youth for Tomorrow
This is Handshakes Over Handcuffs

Real conversations. Real standards. Real preparation.

If you want mentors who will challenge youth and prepare them for what’s next, this is what we do.

Our first Club Dad session showed us exactly why this work matters.

Before the session began, families took part in a simple activity. Parents and children painted each other’s hands and placed them side by side on paper with one message written across it:

“I am so lucky to have you.”

What started as a small activity quickly turned into a meaningful moment. Parents were smiling, laughing, and fully present with their children. Some shared that they had not done anything like that since they were kids themselves.

Ms. Robinson captured the moment perfectly. She reminded everyone that sometimes we have to get comfortable being uncomfortable, because moments like this are what create lasting memories with our children.

That moment led directly into our conversation on Strength in Vulnerability.

During the discussion, one father spoke openly and shared much of what was on his mind. His willingness to speak created space for a real and honest conversation.

Moments like that reinforce why Men’s University exists. This is a space for fathers and father figures to connect, reflect, and grow together.

We had 10 individuals register. Not all were able to attend, but the impact in the room was real.

This is only the beginning.

Our next session is already set (next Thursday March 26).

March Madness From the Court to the Crib
Free breakfast. Raffles. Real conversation.

We invite all fathers and father figures to join us. Bring someone with you.

One of our Preparing Youth for Tomorrow interns from last summer reached out for a letter of recommendation.

We didn’t just write a letter.

We showed up.

Completed the forms.
Answered the questions.
Took the time to support her next step.

Today she shared this with us.

Selected as 1 of 40 students out of 370 applicants for a competitive summer internship.

This is what PYT is about.

Our work doesn’t stop when a program ends.
We stay connected.
We continue to mentor.
We continue to support.

Because the goal is not just participation.
It’s progression.

We are proud of you and we’re with you every step of the way.

The work continues. Always.

One of the most powerful things we do through Handshakes Over Handcuffs is bring real people into the room.

People who lived the same dreams our students have right now.

A couple weeks ago, my nephew, came to speak to this group of student athletes of

Back in high school he was a problem on the field.

6’3. 210 pounds.
Baltimore Sun All-Decade Team.
Catonsville record holder for most career points.
All American at the defensive end position (yes, the leading scorer record is correct 💪🏾)
State semifinal team.

When the students saw the articles and highlights they were convinced they knew the ending.

“THE LEAGUE!”

But life has a way of writing different chapters.

Sean came in to talk about roadblocks, decisions, and resilience.

During the conversation Sean asked the youth why they believe he didn’t make it to the league, and one student shouted out what he thought the reason was… and the room lost it.

Kids really do say the darndest things.

But moments like this are why the work matters.

Real stories.
Real laughs.
Real lessons.

And now Sean hasn’t missed a session and is working toward becoming a PYT facilitator.

Since joining us, Sean has been able to teach them…
You don’t have to make it to the league to still win in life.

SOMETIMES THE BEST MENTORS ARE THE ONES WHO TOOK THE ROADS THE STUDENTS ATE WALKING RIGHT NOW.

I can’t wait to show you the rest of the surprises we have in store!

Club Dad is Men’s University…. And we’re BACK!

At Arundel Elementary, the program is called Club Dad through our partnership with the Judy Center and is powered by South Baltimore Gateway Partnership. This is part of Preparing Youth for Tomorrow’s Men’s University initiative.

Same purpose. Same structure. Same commitment to fathers.

This South Baltimore initiative is open to fathers and male caregivers who live in the Cherry Hill community and surrounding South Baltimore area.

Men’s University is a space created for men who are raising, guiding, or mentoring the next generation. It is designed to build brotherhood, strengthen leadership at home, and create real conversations about life, fatherhood, and responsibility.

This is not about perfection.
It is about presence.

Strong men build strong homes. Strong homes build strong communities.

Men’s University is back!

Preparing Youth for Tomorrow’s Men’s University is a dedicated space for fathers and male role models to connect, reflect, and grow together.

This is not a lecture.
This is not about fixing anyone.

It’s about real conversations among men who care about their children and want to lead their homes with consistency, strength, and intention.

For our families, we’re launching the series with a March Madness theme, because staying steady under pressure applies just as much at home as it does in competition.

Men’s University is a program under the PYT umbrella focused on strengthening men, strengthening families, and strengthening communities.

Padres fuertes construyen hogares fuertes.
Hogares fuertes fortalecen nuestra comunidad.
