Our Founder & Executive Director, Kevin Moody, is participating in the Fall 2026 Board Pipeline Leadership Development Cohort with Associated Black Charities.

The goal is simple: learn how to build the strong, effective board PYT will need for its next chapter while developing new relationships and learning from other leaders along the way.

We’re not only building programs. We’re building the organization that can sustain them. 🌱

Thank you to The Baltimore Sun for covering Badges & Bridges, a Preparing Youth for Tomorrow event created to bring law enforcement officers and people with intellectual, developmental and invisible disabilities together BEFORE their first interaction happens during a crisis.

We’ve seen some of the confusion surrounding the cover photo, some interpreted the image of officers interacting with horses as comparing people with disabilities to animals.

That was not the premise of the story or the event, and we would hate for the photo to leave a bad taste in anyone’s mouth before they have an opportunity to actually read the article, which does a great job explaining why this work matters.

City Ranch and the horses were intentional. 🐴 The environment gave officers and participants a relaxed, shared experience where barriers could come down naturally before we moved into honest conversations, learning and relationship building.

We’re honored to see Badges and Bridges featured by The Baltimore Sun.

For those discovering us through this story, welcome to Preparing Youth for Tomorrow, Inc. (PYT), the organization that created and hosted Badges and Bridges.

This first-of-its-kind event brought law enforcement officers and members of the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) community together to build relationships, understanding and trust before their first interaction happens during a crisis. 🤝🏾

What happened that day showed us that this conversation cannot end here. We’re already exploring opportunities to bring Badges and Bridges back, and future events will need additional law enforcement officers, members of the I/DD community and community partners willing to join us at the table.

We’re incredibly grateful to the Maryland Department of Disabilities for funding this initiative, Each Teach for facilitating the conversation, SOY Baltimore for assisting with logistics, City Ranch for helping us create the experience, Baltimore City Rec and Parks for providing an amazing group of youth, and the entire PYT team for bringing the vision to life.

POV: they said “you’re just here for the horses” … and honestly?? 😭🐴

But in all seriousness, this day was about so much more than horses.

Badges & Bridges brought together youth, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, self advocates, families, law enforcement officers, volunteers, facilitators, and community partners for a day of connection, honesty, and understanding.

One day. One conversation. A lasting impact.

One conversation can change a perspective.

This week, Badges & Bridges brought together youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, four law enforcement agencies, self advocates, families, facilitators, volunteers, and community partners for a day built on honesty, connection, and understanding.

Participants ranged from 7 years old through adulthood. Together, we shared a meal, spent time with horses, asked real questions, and discovered how much we have in common.

This wasn’t a lecture.

It was people learning from people.

Many of the officers who joined us are early in their careers, with decades of service still ahead of them. The understanding they gained this week has the potential to impact countless future interactions in our communities.

That’s how change begins.

One conversation.

One relationship.

One seed at a time.

A bridge was built.

Now we keep walking across it.

Thank you to the Ethan Saylor Alliance, the Maryland Department of Disabilities, Each Teach, City Ranch, Baltimore City Recs and Parks, our participating law enforcement agencies, our youth leaders, volunteers, facilitators, supporters, and every participant who made this day unforgettable.

The event lasted one day. The impact will last for decades. ❤️🐴🤝

Tomorrow is about more than an event.

It’s about creating a space where youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and law enforcement officers can meet as people first. A space built on listening, learning, honesty, and human connection.

We’ll share a meal, spend time with horses, ask real questions, and have conversations that we hope will leave a lasting impact long after tomorrow ends.

We are honored to be recognized alongside organizations across Maryland doing important work to create safer outcomes and stronger connections between individuals with I/DD and law enforcement. 💙🧡

Through the Ethan Saylor Alliance Community Impact Grant, Preparing Youth for Tomorrow, Inc. is bringing that mission to life with Badges & Bridges: A Common Ground Conversation on August 4th.

This experience will bring youth self advocates with I/DD and law enforcement officers together for real conversation, shared experiences, and human connection, creating space for youth to use their voices while giving officers an opportunity to listen, learn, and better understand the individuals they may encounter in the community.

📢 We are still looking for a few more youth with I/DD to join us from 11:30am to 2:30pm!

If you know a young person who can participate in conversation, ask and answer questions, and advocate for themselves, we would love to have them join us.
