Why should the magic of camp stop when summer does?

We created the 100 Hours Outside Challenge to keep kids playing outside all year long.

🌿 Spend 100 hours in kid-led outdoor play by May 31.
🎨 Every 10 hours, draw or write about a favorite outdoor moment and send it to us.

This year's staff, like every staff before it, is the best we've ever had.

Every one of them gives their absolute best every day to the cause of giving kids, and themselves, the space and support they need to grow.

The philosophy is simple: Give the tools, then step back. Watch what happens. Step in, but only when needed for guidance.

There's still two weeks left, but yesterday we celebrated the winding down of the season together before some have to return to school. Izzy is an RA this year and just started two weeks of training for it. Lily is going into her senior year and starting to prep for her capstone project in child psychology.

And what better way to celebrate it all than karaoke?

For some people, getting up in front of a room and singing is a real challenge. But, just like at camp, the camaraderie and support in this group melted away a lot of that nervousness and gave people the confidence to push their limits.

Which, come to think of it, isn't that what we ask parents and their kids to do, too?
..Give them enough support to feel safe taking a risk. Then step back and watch what happens.

In this case, there was also a certain level of ridiculousness and extra fun- counselors Julia and Mia belted out incredible breakup songs and love ballads... in perfect Spanish. Ranger James owned the Pink Pony Club bit decked out like Chappell Roan. No crumbs, as they say. And the whole group brought down the house over and over.

Sorry. This is the only photo that survived. All other photographic evidence has been destroyed. ...or maybe not. We'll never tell.
