Tradesperson Spotlight: Albert D. Parra⚒️👷
For generations, adobe construction has been an important part of New Mexico’s cultural heritage. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re highlighting craftsman Albert D. Parra, who has spent decades practicing and teaching traditional adobe construction and restoration techniques.
From learning the trade at age nine to restoring historic adobe buildings and working alongside New Mexico communities, Parra demonstrates how preservation starts with keeping traditional knowledge and skills alive.

The Campaign at The Work of Revolution! 🛠️
Last week, CHT’s Jordan Riggs joined fellow historic trades experts at the AASLH/NCPH joint conference in Providence, Rhode Island, for a session on “Utilizing Historic Sites for Trades Training.”
The panel explored how historic sites can use trades training programs to address skilled workforce shortages, tackle deferred maintenance, and help protect historic resources for future generations.

Preservation doesn’t happen without the trades! ⚒️
Today, on National Tradesmen Day, we’re celebrating the tradespeople, apprentices, instructors, and mentors who are building the future of historic preservation.
While the holiday’s name uses “tradesmen,” the skilled trades are increasingly diverse. More than 314,000 women work in skilled trades occupations—an increase of nearly 32% in recent years. 👷‍♀️

Historic preservation needs everyone with the skills, knowledge, and passion to keep traditional trades alive.
