“WATERMELON WAITING” by Eldridge Bagley 2006 Oil on linen 18” x 24”
The steamy days of summer remind me of my earlier farming years, when outdoor thermometers, weathered straw hats, and watermelon chilled in fresh spring water, were a part of our work days. The thermometer in the painting advertises Bagley’s Garage. Two of my uncles, Odis and Wilson Bagley, operated the garage, which stood on E. Fifth Avenue in Kenbridge, VA. A modern brick building, occupied by Innovative Insurance Group, now stands on that site.
The painting “Watermelon Waiting” is in a private collection. It was not reproduced as a limited edition print.
