Kindness and respect are the core duties we share as human beings. If everyone practiced these two simple actions daily, the world would change for the better. 🧒👱‍♀️👨‍🦱👱🏾‍♂️👨🏽‍🍳🧕

Today's rose is Angel Pernet, a Hybrid Tea introduced by Pernet-Ducher in 1924. This is a glowing, elegant bicolor of orange shaded peach, veined with vermilion, reversed buff-yellow. Superb, glossy, golden-green foliage. Fragrant.

I’ve spent enough time in the garden to understand that you can’t keep digging up yesterday and expect tomorrow to grow. Some things need to be pruned. Some things need to be left behind. And some things simply need to be remembered for what they taught us.

The garden keeps moving forward, and so should we.

What happened yesterday helped shape who you are, but it doesn’t have to decide what comes next. There are still things to plant, things to tend, and plenty of growing left to do.

Quit looking over your shoulder. Turn your face toward what’s next. Your future is waiting on you.

“WATERMELON WAITING” by Eldridge Bagley 2006 Oil on linen 18” x 24”
The steamy days of summer remind me of my earlier farming years, when outdoor thermometers, weathered straw hats, and watermelon chilled in fresh spring water, were a part of our work days. The thermometer in the painting advertises Bagley’s Garage. Two of my uncles, Odis and Wilson Bagley, operated the garage, which stood on E. Fifth Avenue in Kenbridge, VA. A modern brick building, occupied by Innovative Insurance Group, now stands on that site.
The painting “Watermelon Waiting” is in a private collection. It was not reproduced as a limited edition print.

Keep your roses blooming beautifully through late summer with a few simple habits:
deep morning watering, plenty of sun, regular deadheading, mulch, light feeding, and excellent airflow circulation.
Save this for your late Summer rose-care routine.
