Awareness turned into action in the McAuley Lobby here at Mercy!

The Mercy Family joined together to provide information, resources, giveaways, and on-the-spot mammogram scheduling during our 5th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month event. Guests also had the opportunity to learn about genetic counseling and connect with staff from the Breast Center, Women's Imaging, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and more. The enthusiasm for supporting breast health, sharing information and awareness was contagious.

Last week was filled of celebrations dedicated to recognizing various professions or bringing awareness to important topics. Pictured here are just a few of our Call Center associates in the midst of their Spirit Week. They celebrated with one of their themed days with a "Mercy Day!" It was a great opportunity for everyone to have some fun, show their team spirit, and celebrate Mercy's amazing Call Center associates. Bravo!

Ravens football season is well underway and we are cheering them on here at Mercy! A few weeks ago, Mercy employees - including overnight and Hub Site staff - celebrated with some always delicious soft pretzels, Mercy merchandise, and Ravens spirit. Employees were also encouraged to bring new/gently used shoes and sports equipment for donation to SOLE4SOULS and Level the Playing Field.

We are proud to have welcomed the newest class of Loyola University Maryland nursing students! Thank you to the Mercy Nurses, Educators, staff, and colleagues at Loyola who help guide these students in their Nursing journey. Nursing excellence has been a part of who we are since our beginnings in 1874.

As part of their welcoming, students enjoyed an ice cream social, tour of the units, and had the opportunity to meet Nursing and Executive Leadership, Sr. Helen Amos, RSM, Mercy Executive Board Chair, and Dr. Maine, President and CEO of Mercy Health Services.

Last week, we celebrated Surgical Tech week! The theme of the week, as noted by the Association of Surgical Technologists, was "Guardians of the OR:" they note that every day, certified Surgical Technologists help protect the surgical galaxy with skill, precision, and unwavering dedication. They work behind the scenes to maintain sterile technique, ensure patient safety, and support surgeons, ensuring the best possible outcome for our patients.

We are so grateful for our Mercy Surgical Tech team! Thank you for all you to do provide excellent care for our patients.

Yesterday, we celebrated Mercy Day! Mercy Day marks the 1827 opening of the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland. Mercy employees at our downtown Hospital and Hub Sites enjoyed a complimentary meal in celebration of this important date in Mercy history.

Not only is it a beautiful day reflecting on the beginnings of Mercy, but we also take the opportunity to celebrate Mercy employee's milestone anniversaries. Employees who have worked at Mercy for 5, 10, and 15 years, all the way up to 40, 45, and 50 years of service are honored in our annual Mercy Day Ceremony. It is such a special ceremony, giving employees a chance to really reflect on their own journey in the Mercy Family.

Special shout out to Joanne M., who celebrated 55 years of service this year! Congratulations, Joanne!

Last week, the Nursing Education and Professional Development Council hosted the Annual Education Summit! Nurses across the organization gathered to share on different topics that staff identified as areas of interest. There were activities, a plethora of information, and of course, the amazing spirit of Mercy Nurses.

¡Feliz Mes de la Herencia Hispana! Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! In the spirit of Hospitality, we proudly celebrate the many diverse cultures, histories and contributions of our Hispanic and Latine communities.

Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 to October 15, which includes the independence days of El Salvador and Guatemala on September 15th, Mexico on September 16th, and Chile on September 18th. We recognize that Hispanic identity is not a single identity, but rather a vast diversity of cultures, traditions and walks of life that reflect the rich vibrancy of many peoples.

Here at Mercy, we'll have events all throughout the month to celebrate, including a Caldo de Polla (chicken soup) cooking demonstration for employees, movie night, and trivia opportunities.

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor the victims, their families, and all who served in the days and years that followed, including the caregivers whose work continues to this day.
