“The next time you pass a homeless person on the street, try to envisage what really went wrong and why they ended up there. Dismissing all these people as failures, drop outs and drug addicts is grossly misleading. It is time to reflect on the real reasons for homelessness and look at individual stories to get a more rounded picture.” They are not all victims of poverty. They could be female veterans who are at a higher risk. It could be a homeless child, escaping from a violent household, wanting a better life but doesn’t know how to figure it all out. A homeless woman could be a victim of domestic abuse. There are so many reasons behind why a person is homeless. So we want to try our best to lighten up their day and make it a little easier for them! It’s a scary situation, but if the community comes together, we could make a huge difference!

Approximately 2,500 men, women, and children are homeless in Baltimore on any given night. Four factors are primarily responsible for homelessness: lack of affordable housing, lack of affordable health care, low incomes, and a lack of comprehensive services. Chronic illnesses, including substance abuse disorders and persistent mental illness, and other physical disabilities create additional challenges in resolving homelessness.
