The WNCAF will be having our quarterly meeting this Wednesday, July 15, 2026. We are being hosted by Grace Chapel Fire Department in Caldwell County. We will start at 6:00 pm and eat after opening. We look forward to seeing you there.

Had a great meeting in Buncombe County this evening hosted by their county fire association. We awarded the Volunteer Fire Chief of the Year to Roger Whisnant (Yadkin Valley Fire), Career Chief of the Year to Mark Wilson (Mountain Home Fire), and Volunteer Company Officer of the Year to Earl Withers IV (Dallas Fire). We also honored our Treasurer Dean Coward and Secretary Anthony Penland for their many years (40 and 18 respectively) to the association. They were named Honorary Past Presidents and presented with presentation axes. Outgoing President Bryan Buchanan (Upper Hominy Fire) gave his final report and was likewise presented an axe for serving this past year. The new president Trevor Key (Collettsville Fire) and the 2026 board were sworn in. Thanks to Newton Fire and Safety for sponsoring the meal which was provided by Ben’s Backdraft BBQ. Ben is a firefighter in Buncombe County as well.

A huge shout out to the Cape Fear EMS Foundation for their support of the firefighters in the Western Association. They raised $1,800 for disaster relief. These funds will go directly to firefighters who had losses during last year’s hurricane, many of whom were responding to help others while their own property was destroyed.
