The death rate from cancer in the US declined by 29% from 1991 to 2017, including a 2.2% drop from 2016 to 2017, the largest single-year drop ever recorded, according to annual statistics reporting from the American Cancer Society.

27 years since our mom, Dee, passed. This year, all 4 of us are hovering around the ages Mom was first diagnosed with breast cancer and when she left us on 12/31/92.
How do we acknowledge her passing? Prayers, time with our families and children and continuing to be grateful for all the good that has come into our lives since, and, hopefully, paying it forward.
Our one true hope is by continuing to do the work we do as Dee's Kids, we are able to help one more family hold onto their Mom, sister, wife, daughter...just as we've held on to our healthy Jude 10 years after her first diagnosis.
Dee's Kids is a testament to love and gratitude. Here's to all of our families' New Year. May it be filled with joy, hope, love and health. Happy New Year from all of Dee's Kids: Angelo, Laura, Jude and Alicia, and Dee's husband, Jerry, who continues to show us the way.

It's that time of year again to take the time to give thanks and to share happiness with those you love. If you're looking to make a give of charity this year in someone's memory or honor, consider Dee's Kids!
What do we do? Support families who have someone currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Because of your generosity, we have provided direct financial support to local families to travel to NYC to receive treatment; to pay for transportation and medical bills locally; to buy Christmas presents for a young family in Troy. We have created the Dee Germano Memorial Scholarship in memory of Dee herself to honor a Troy High School Graduate who exemplifies kindness, hard work and generosity.
Why do we do it? Our mom, Dee Germano, was 47 when she passed from an aggressive form of breast cancer. Less than 20 years later, one of her daughters was diagnosed with the same cancer at age 35. Because of early detection, advances in research and treatment and wonderful care, Dee's daughter is well and will live to see her child grow up. We are grateful and we simply want to pay it forward.
If you're able to donate $30 or more, Dee's Kids can throw in a signature t-shirt as a thank you from us to you!

The Joan Nicole Prince Home is a non-profit that provides 24/7 comfort care to terminally ill patients in need during their final days.
