My proposal to Nassau County officials which we will call our mission statement:
" The purpose of this community garden is to encourage neighbors to interact while appreciating the flora and fauna as well as learning about healthier diet alternatives. This location will be a public "green" space for residents and families to convene and enjoy nature within walking distance of their homes...Surroun
ding the museum will be a small kinetic, interactive children's garden complete with benches, tables and cut outs for photo opportunities...We intend to include a bike rack and a solar-powered kiosk, where local events, emergency information, and upcoming workshops can be listed...In addition, we are investigating the possibility of a sculpture garden as well as meditative maze/labyrinth. All of these will increase the potential of the garden to make Baldwin a Long Island destination. Finally, we envision that the museum and surrounding area could hold a farmer's market with produce grown at the garden. Leftover produce could be distributed to nearby shelters and food pantries."
