💙⚽ Coach Spotlight: Coach Ryan Berg ⚽💙
Meet Coach Ryan, head coach of Palmyra Pride! Ryan is entering his third year with Club Palmyra and his fifth year coaching youth soccer.
Originally from Elk River, Minnesota, Ryan now calls Baldwin City home. Unlike some of our coaches, he didn’t grow up playing soccer! A multi-sport athlete, Ryan played baseball, basketball, football, and plenty of hockey growing up. His love for soccer came later in life when his kids introduced him to the game.
Ryan began coaching because he believes sports are about much more than wins and losses. They’re an opportunity to learn how to work as a team, overcome challenges, and develop skills that carry far beyond the field.
He holds multiple U.S. Soccer Grassroots licenses and has coached players from kindergarten through U11. His favorite moments aren’t necessarily the trophies, they’re seeing a player finally understand a concept, play with confidence, or genuinely celebrate a teammate’s success.
Ryan and his wife, Amy, have two children, Walter and Britton. Walter plays for Club Palmyra, and when Ryan isn’t on a soccer field, there’s a good chance you’ll find him coaching another sport! He’s also a Cub Scout den leader and serves on his church board.
❤️ What he loves most about Baldwin: The people. “It’s what makes Baldwin…Baldwin.”
💬 Coaching Style: Play with heart.
⚽ Favorite Teams: Sporting KC & Liverpool
☕ Pre-Game Fuel: Oatmeal or Cheerios, followed by black coffee
💙 One Word That Describes Club Palmyra: Family
⚽ Favorite Sound: A solid strike of the ball
One lesson Ryan hopes every player takes with them:
Never be afraid to fail. Be patient, learn from it, and keep going.
Thank you, Coach Ryan, for encouraging our players to compete with heart, embrace challenges, and become well-rounded young people. We’re excited to watch Pride continue to grow this season! 💙⚽
