Club Palmyra focuses on developing soccer players in both a family friendly as well as cost friendly environment.

Club Palmyra focuses on developing players in both a family friendly as well as cost friendly environment. We work to develop players based on the four pillars of the game (Technical, Tactical, Physical and Mental). Our program strives to help each player develop to his or her ability, and to achieve his or her individual goals, such as a position on a high school or college soccer team. In order

to emphasize teamwork and discipline, we also set team goals. These goals are also determined by the abilities of the members of the team. The league in which your child will play (Heartland or Metro United) will be determined by those abilities, and the environment in which your coach feels will give the players the best possibility to develop. In the spirit of development, we also fully support an individual's participation in other activities. We encourage our players to be well rounded and experience other activities. Soccer is a vehicle in which players learn problem solving, teamwork and goal setting. Our hope is that our players will carry these attributes to other areas of their lives. In order to keep our costs down, all of our teams are coached by volunteer coaches. These coaches have varied levels of experience in the game, but all of our coaches carry at least a USSF State License. All coaches understand our club philosophy and will work to develop and inspire each player to achieve his or her goals in a safe and friendly environment. All coaches share club resources and have access to training sessions and the guidance of a technical director. The coaches understand that the development of players is a process, and their training sessions are both age and ability appropriate.

💙⚽ Coach Spotlight: Coach Kenneth Harbison ⚽💙

Meet Coach Kenneth, assistant coach of the Palmyra Cyclones! Kenneth is entering his second year with Club Palmyra and brings nine years of coaching experience in both recreational and club soccer.

Originally from Ottawa, Kenneth works in construction specializing in paint and drywall. Although he didn’t play soccer growing up, his love for the game developed while watching his own kids play. When he saw a need for coaches, he stepped up and has been helping young players learn and grow ever since.

Kenneth holds his U.S. Soccer Grassroots coaching license and has coached players ranging from kindergarten all the way through high school. His favorite part of coaching is seeing the look on a player’s face when something they’ve been working on finally clicks!

For Kenneth, soccer should be a place where kids develop their skills, enjoy their teammates, and most importantly, have fun.

Kenneth and his wife have four children, including a college freshman at ESU, a high school freshman, and a sixth grader who plays for the Palmyra Cyclones.

Their family is also heavily involved in Scouting. Kenneth served as a Cubmaster for 10 years and now serves as a Troop Committee Chair. Two of his children have earned the incredible distinction of becoming Eagle Scouts!

💙⚽ Coach Spotlight: Coach Ryan Berg ⚽💙

Meet Coach Ryan, head coach of Palmyra Pride! Ryan is entering his third year with Club Palmyra and his fifth year coaching youth soccer.

Originally from Elk River, Minnesota, Ryan now calls Baldwin City home. Unlike some of our coaches, he didn’t grow up playing soccer! A multi-sport athlete, Ryan played baseball, basketball, football, and plenty of hockey growing up. His love for soccer came later in life when his kids introduced him to the game.

Ryan began coaching because he believes sports are about much more than wins and losses. They’re an opportunity to learn how to work as a team, overcome challenges, and develop skills that carry far beyond the field.

He holds multiple U.S. Soccer Grassroots licenses and has coached players from kindergarten through U11. His favorite moments aren’t necessarily the trophies, they’re seeing a player finally understand a concept, play with confidence, or genuinely celebrate a teammate’s success.

Ryan and his wife, Amy, have two children, Walter and Britton. Walter plays for Club Palmyra, and when Ryan isn’t on a soccer field, there’s a good chance you’ll find him coaching another sport! He’s also a Cub Scout den leader and serves on his church board.

💙⚽ Coach Spotlight: Coach Madison Dougherty ⚽💙

Meet Coach Madison, coach of our U9 Thunder and U10 Mayhem! This is her second year coaching and her family’s third year with Club Palmyra.

Madison grew up in Wyandotte County, graduated from Bonner Springs High School, and has played soccer most of her life. She made varsity as a freshman and, after taking a break to start her family, now plays in the Lawrence adult rec league.

One of her favorite soccer memories happened recently when her oldest son, Jace, joined her adult team for a few minutes and scored! Sharing the field with her firstborn and watching him finish a goal was a moment she’ll never forget. 💙

Madison became a coach to help kids become their best on and off the field. Beyond soccer skills and field IQ, she wants players to learn how to handle mistakes, wins and losses, support their teammates, and keep moving forward.

She holds her U.S. Soccer 7v7 Grassroots License and hopes to pursue her D License.

Madison and her husband, Reed, have been married for 13 years and have three boys, Jace, Finn, and Jensen. Jace plays for Firetree United, while Finn plays for Palmyra Thunder and Palmyra Mayhem. Their family also enjoys pottery and D&D!

❤️ What she loves about our community: When Reed needed emergency spinal surgery this spring, their community showed up in an incredible way. After a long few months, he’s now all clear!

💬 Coaching Philosophy: Soccer is a game, and games should be FUN! Her goal is for every player to leave wanting to play more.
