Although 90% of people diagnosed with sarcoidosis have lung involvement, sarcoidosis is more than a lung disease. So although you might have been told that you "only" have pulmonary sarcoidosis, keep in mind that sarcoidosis does not respect boundaries. Sarcoidosis is an immune system disorder that can affect almost any organ in the body, so symptoms can vary based on where sarcoidosis is active. Sarcoidosis is characterized by an over-active immune system that fails to "stand down" after a threat to the immune stsyem has been neutralized. Granulomas formed in this process remain in the body causing inflammation and interrupting organ function. Additionally the inflammation that results from sarcoidosis can create systemic problems such as fatigue, brain fog, neuropathy, and pain, that cannot always be linked back to the site of the granulomas. Some people are asymptomatic, and the symptoms listed here are but the tip of the iceberg for how sarcoidosis might actually manifest in any one patient.
