Project Clean Air & San Joaquin Valley Clean Cities & Communities

Project Clean Air & San Joaquin Valley Clean Cities & Communities Project Clean Air is a 501[c]3 nonprofit that strives to improve air quality through education and community engagement.

Since its inception in 1991, the goal of Project Clean Air, Inc. (PCA) has been to work with residents, local businesses and public agencies to seek solutions to improving air quality and educating people about the connection between poor air quality and increased respiratory and heart health problems. We seek to develop cooperative joint ventures that will help businesses and member agencies meet

challenges in a cost-effective manner. PCA is proud of our award winning, groundbreaking programs such as: Kern Auto Recycle, Teach the Teachers, the Clean Air Rally, Advanced Engine Technologies, Alternatives to Ag Burning, and Blue Sky Partners. PCA is also a founding member of the Tree Foundation of Kern. Trees clean the air, while other programs prevent air pollution. Since 2002, PCA has served as the umbrella nonprofit for the San Joaquin Valley Clean Cities Coalition (SJVCCC). This program is designed to encourage the use of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), hybrid, and electric vehicles and their supporting infrastructure throughout the nation. Two partnerships under the SJVCCC are the San Joaquin Valley Electric Vehicle Partnerhip (SJVEVP) and the San Joaquin Valley Natural Gas Partnership (SJVNGP). These partnerships focus on promoting awareness of specific types of alternative fuels.

Thank you Valley Air District & citizens of Bakersfield!

Despite temperatures climbing into the upper 90s, Saturday's Bakersfield Tune In & Tune Up event was a tremendous success with nearly 500 cars! ☀️🚗

A total of 471 vehicles attended, and 439 smog repair vouchers were issued. 🙌

Thank you to our dedicated staff who kept participants moving and distributed water throughout the day to help everyone stay safe in the heat.

And, of course, a special thank you to the Valley Air District for their continued partnership and support in making these events possible.

Congrats to CSUB!

📣 CSUB was one of three CSUs selected to join the California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) program for the 2026-27 academic year.

CCAC, a statewide workforce development program focused on addressing the effects of climate change, will fund four full-time fellows who will assist CSUB’s Center for Accessibility and Essential Needs with food recovery, organic waste reduction and urban greening initiatives.

“We are very excited to have this. We’re honored to be chosen for the program and to be a leader in the community to address climate change,” and seeing where this can go for us,” said Jason Watkins, the center’s director. “Ultimately, it’s going to promote growth for the campus and help us better support students.”
