Honorably discharged military veterans undergo rigorous, world-class small-arms safety and marksmanship training during their service. Yet under current California regulations, local veterans in Kern County must pay full out-of-pocket costs and complete basic civilian 16-hour courses—ignoring proven military qualification records.
At the Kern County Veterans Chamber of Commerce, we look at this through the lens of economic growth, veteran entrepreneurship, and workforce development:
1️⃣ Recognize Military Credentials: Accept DD-214 marksmanship records to streamline CCW processing and remove redundant course fees for honorably discharged veterans.
2️⃣ Support Veteran-Owned Small Businesses: Reduce regulatory burdens on local veteran-owned security firms, training academies, and outdoor supply businesses.
3️⃣ Protect Veteran Healthcare Access: Ensure clear due process so service members can seek mental wellness care without administrative friction. It’s time to honor military competency and reduce red tape for Kern County veterans.
