The Women's and Girls' Fund is a leadership initiative of Kern Community Foundation, founded in 2005.

Our mission: We will transform the lives of women and girls in Kern County by mobilizing the power and passion of women working together. WOMEN EDUCATE to create awareness of women's and girls' needs unmet by current strategies. WOMEN ENDOW a permanent fund whose annual yield supports programs benefitting women and girls throughout Kern County. WOMEN EMPOWER one another and our girls to be philanthropists and advocates of positive social change.

About The Women's and Girls' Fund

The Women's and Girls' Fund was launched in 2005 as a leadership initiative of Kern Community Foundation. It is primarily a volunteer effort guided by the leadership of the Vision Committee and Community Advisors. The assets of the Fund are professionally managed and invested by Kern Community Foundation, which also provides oversight of Fund grant decisions.

Through grantmaking, members of The Women's and Girls' Fund become philanthropists and advocates of positive social change. Fund members rely on community research, data and the participation of community members to identify an area of focus each year. Issues of focus can range from women's and girls' health and economic concerns to safety and domestic violence, education, and more.

Since its first grantmaking in 2008, The Women’s and Girls’ Fund has awarded 101 grants from the endowed fund, totaling $890,686 from 2007 through 2025.

The Women's and Girls' Fund (WGF) is now accepting Letters of Intent (LOIs) for the 2026-2027 grant cycle. The fund will award approximately $100,000 to local nonprofits, with a maximum award of $25,000, for programs that benefit women and/or girls within Kern County.

The application process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to apply for funding by the hard deadline of 5 p.m. on November 14. The focus is on Education and Daily-Life Knowledge.

The Women’s and Girls’ Fund (WGF) is celebrating its 20th anniversary by announcing its largest-ever grant cycle, with at least $100,000 available for 2025.

Organizations interested in applying should have a 501(c)(3) nonprofit designation or a fiscal sponsor. All organizations seeking funds must have a presence in Kern County, benefit women and/or girls in Kern County, and meet Kern Community Foundation’s eligibility guidelines.

The application process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to apply for funding by the hard deadline of 5 p.m. Oct. 14.
