Courses about the Labor Movement in the Central Valley and about Cesar Chavez are courses about American history. That history is local history and our students have every right to know it. Opponents insist it’s ”political” and the wrong politics at that. Much of history is political. It’s ok to learn about political history. It’s not ok to let politics dictate what people should be exposed to in public spaces.

Some folks in Kern County are probably unaware of the rich farm labor history that was born right here decades ago. And some, I suspect, would rather it remain that

There is still time to register for the CTA Region 2 Leadership Conference – Home Edition! scheduled for September 29 – October 2, 2021.

The Region 2 Leadership Conference – Home Edition! features a variety of workshops with a focus on preparing you for the challenges that lie ahead with a special emphasis on the unique issues and challenges we all face during this new school year.

You will be revitalized by our Saturday Closing General Session keynote speaker: CTA President Toby Boyd. Together, we will rejoice over the future of public schools, our unions, and our students.

All-Region 2 members – both current leaders and those who want to learn how to lead – are welcome to attend this free, virtual conference.

Session Descriptions

By attending the Region 2 Leadership Conference, CTA members can earn university credit paid for by CTA via the University Credit Season Pass. As a benefit of membership, CTA will pay the $75 per unit cost. CTA members can accumulate hours toward university credit by attending one or several conferences; you do not have to earn all 15 hours through one online event. After a conference is over, the recorded sessions move to an online, members-only learning environment platform known as CTA Virtual Pass, where members can watch the recorded sessions on their own time to earn hours toward university credit.
