KERN COUNTY HONOR FLIGHT FACT SHEET
Honor Flight Kern County (HFKC) is one of 128 hubs from around the country that is part of the Honor Flight Network. HFKC is an all-volunteer non-profit created to honor veterans of Kern County and surrounding areas. While there is no central database, it is estimated that there are approximately 45,000 veterans in Kern County. Honor Flight takes any veteran tha

t has served through the WWII, Korean, Vietnam, and Cold War eras (including peacetime Veterans) to Washington, D.C. Veterans must have served before May, 1975. Every Honor Flight trip is free to each veteran as we believe our heroes have already paid the price. The trip includes airfare, ground transportation, meals, overnight accommodations, guided tours, shirts, a jacket, duffle bag, and a transport chair (if needed). All of this is made possible by the generous donations of our community. Veterans should apply now since there is a wait list. They can always defer when called, if needed. Veterans that have served in any era, with a life threatening illness, will be moved to the top of the list. Spouses are NOT eligible to accompany their veteran, even if they are assigned as a personal caregiver through the VA. HFKC’s first flight was on May 25-27, 2012. As of November, 2023, HFKC has flown 49 trips. HFKC has a monthly breakfast for Veterans on the first Thursday of every month. Breakfast is at the Elks Lodge, 1616, 30th St, 9-10:30am. Guests are $10. HFKC holds monthly breakfasts at Bakersfield, Tehachapi, Lake Isabella, and Ridgecrest. Our web address: https://www.honorflightkerncounty.org/

🇺🇸 “Our veterans deserve to know they are appreciated.”

Robert Price of KGET 17 News shares why volunteering at the monthly Honor Flight Kern County breakfast is such a meaningful way to give back to those who served our nation.

Robert talks about the importance of honoring the men and women who wore our country’s uniform and the value of taking time to listen to their stories. The monthly breakfast isn’t just about food—it’s about bringing veterans, families, and community members together in a place where respect, gratitude, and friendship can thrive.

He encourages people to volunteer, meet local veterans, and experience firsthand the incredible camaraderie that fills the room each month. Whether you’re serving breakfast, helping with event setup, or simply spending time in conversation, every act of support shows our veterans that their service and sacrifice have not been forgotten.

For Robert, these gatherings are a powerful reminder that honoring veterans is a community effort—and one that makes a lasting impact on everyone involved. ❤️🇺🇸

🇺🇸 “It’s not just a trip—it’s a life-changing experience.”

Lili Marsh shares her passion for Honor Flight Kern County and why she is so dedicated to the mission of honoring our nation’s heroes.

Lili explains that Honor Flight takes veterans to Washington, D.C. for what she calls the trip of a lifetime. From visiting the memorials built in their honor to receiving the recognition many never received when they came home, the experience leaves a lasting impact on those who attend.

One of the most powerful parts of the journey, she says, is watching veterans at the memorials. Time and time again, she has seen veterans release emotions and burdens they have carried for decades, finding healing, connection, and peace through the experience.

For veterans who may be unsure about going, Lili encourages them to take that first step and get involved. Whether it’s attending the monthly Honor Flight breakfast, volunteering, or joining the flight itself, there is a welcoming community waiting for them.

She also reminds people that Honor Flight is much more than a two-day trip. It’s an ongoing family where veterans stay connected through breakfasts, community events, school visits, parades, and friendships that continue long after the flight ends.

If you’re a veteran, supporter, or someone looking to give back, Lili says there is a place for you in the Honor Flight family. ❤️🇺🇸
