For more than a decade, Nikki Avila has supported Bakersfield families through pregnancy and birth as a doula, educator, and advocate.

Through In the Waiting Doula Services LLC, Nikki brings together hands-on experience, evidence-based education, and a deep respect for the families she serves. She is a Certified Hypnobabies Childbirth Instructor, VBAC Link Educator, trained in Spinning Babies techniques, and a Medi-Cal provider working to expand access to supportive birth care.

Her learning has also taken her to Ecuador and Mexico with Wombs of the World, where time with Indigenous midwives deepened her connection to ancestral birth practices. Alongside serving families, Nikki mentors emerging doulas and continues her own path toward midwifery.

It’s been one month since I received this signed copy of Rebozo for Birth from my maestra, Naoli Vinaver | Mexican midwife . The rebozo has been such a sacred tool for me, and I am honored to hold these pages filled with wisdom and so much heart.

As a visual learner, I deeply appreciate the illustrations that bring these teachings to life. Hands-on training has helped me build confidence in working with the rebozo, and this book supports my continued learning.

I will always be a student, even as I help others learn to use the rebozo in birth work. For me, this practice is a blood memory, a remembering. A connection to my roots and the hands that carried this wisdom before mine.

Thank you, Naolí, for sharing your knowledge with such love and intention. Te amo mucho. 🫶🏽✨🫰🏽
