The BKO Fishing Derby is this Saturday, February 7, 2026, and both lakes will be stocked with more than 1,500 pounds of lightning and rainbow trout, including trophy fish up to five pounds and 25 tagged trout worth up to $1,000. Trophies will be awarded for the largest fish caught in each age group, with the overall grand champion winning an eight-hour fishing trip aboard the Black Pearl Sportfishing boat out of Morro Bay. In addition, the California Deer Association is sponsoring a $500 prize for the highest-numbered tagged trout caught by a child 17 and under. Tickets and additional information are available at Cope’s Tackle and Rod.

We’re just TWO WEEKS away from one of the biggest local fishing events of the year! Join us on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at River Walk Park for the 2nd Annual Bakersfield Kids Outdoors Fishing Derby.

Bakersfield Kids Outdoors is Stocking Trout Again at RiverWalk Lakes! 🎣

BKO is back at it and putting more trout into the lakes at RiverWalk to keep our local kids on the water and fishing! This nonprofit works hard to create opportunities for youth in our community, and these stockings make a huge impact.

Bakersfield Kids Outdoors will be stocking Riverwalk Park with Trout this week and monthly throughout Trout Season, but we need your help! Stocking 1lb of Trout costs us around $6-7!

How you can help:

1. Next time you're in either Cope's Tackle & Rod Shop location you can purchase this sticker for $7. All proceeds from the sticker sales will go directly to Bakersfield Kids Outdoors Trout stocking program!

Twenty-five of the fish will be tagged with a grand prize of $1000. The event is open to all ages including adults and there will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies for all age groups.

We will have volunteers making breakfast burritos in the morning and drinks to go along with it.
