We’d like to recognize and their incredible team for the way they consistently welcome our friends into their space.

Their professionalism, kindness, and commitment to creating an inclusive environment make a meaningful difference for the individuals we support. Opportunities like this allow our participants to engage in the community, try new experiences, and simply enjoy being part of something special.

We truly appreciate the D-BAT team and all they do to make others feel valued and included.

Our Supported Employment Program Manager, Brittany Sudsbury, has been named Habitat ReStore’s Hero of the Month — and we couldn’t be more proud.

Brittany has played a key role in building a strong partnership between Valley Achievement Center and Habitat for Humanity ReStore, helping create meaningful, on-the-job training opportunities for the people we support.

This recognition reflects what we already know — Brittany shows up, leads with purpose, and creates real opportunities for others every single day.

Congrats Brittany!

A few months back, we met at a local event where she shared her interest in highlighting resources here in Kern County for individuals with disabilities.

Since then, she’s been doing exactly that through her “Gabys 411” segment on - bringing in guests and shining a light on services that truly make a difference.

She recently featured our Executive Director, Laura Williams—and now Kurtis Parker, HCBS Coordinator and Person-Centered Thinking Trainer, joined her to talk about the importance of person-centered approaches.

Person-Centered Thinking isn’t just a nice idea—it’s required under HCBS guidelines. If someone is receiving services, their voice, choices, and goals should be leading the way.

Huge shoutout to and the KGET team for using their platform to bring awareness to services that truly change lives and support families in our community.

Today is World Autism Day.

You’ve probably heard the statistic—
1 in 31 children are diagnosed with autism.

That means autism isn’t rare.
It’s part of our communities, our families, and our everyday lives.

But awareness alone isn’t enough.

Awareness is the beginning.
Acceptance is the next step.
But understanding is what truly changes lives.

Awareness says, “I know autism exists.”
Acceptance says, “You belong.”
Understanding says, “I’m willing to learn you—your world, your needs, and what matters to you.”

And understanding may not look the way people expect.

Sometimes it looks like patience when communication is different.
Sometimes it looks like flexibility when routines matter.
Sometimes it looks like giving someone the space to be fully themselves.

Every person experiences the world in their own way.

And when we take the time to understand that—
everything changes.

Understanding changes everything.
