On Wednesday, June 3, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the hostage situation concluded
following an officer-involved shooting involving Federal Bureau of Investigation
personnel. Bakersfield Police Department personnel were not involved in the use of force. All hostages were located unharmed and received medical evaluation and treatment at the scene.
The suspect involved in this incident was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing, and a significant law enforcement presence will
remain in the area for the next several hours as investigators process the scene. Traffic closures are currently in effect between Truxtun Avenue and 18th Street, and between H Street and K Street. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. Delays are to be expected until sometime this afternoon.
A follow-up press conference is tentatively planned for 10 am at the front of the
Bakersfield Police Department Headquarters.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

💔 HEARTBREAK IN MODESTO 💔

A Northern California community is mourning an unimaginable tragedy after three generations of the same family lost their lives in a stabbing attack in Modesto.

According to Modesto Police, 23-year-old Fabiola Gonzalez-Nunez, her 54-year-old mother Maria Silvia Nunez-Villalobos, and Fabiola's 2-week-old infant son were found with fatal stab wounds inside their home on May 28. A young child was also located inside the residence and was reported unharmed. Authorities later arrested a 28-year-old suspect in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing.

This tragedy has left a family grieving the loss of a grandmother, a mother, and a newborn baby. No family should ever have to endure such pain.

As details continue to emerge, Missing Smiles extends our deepest condolences to the loved ones affected by this heartbreaking loss. We also keep the surviving child, extended family members, first responders, and the entire Modesto community in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Today, we remember the victims and the lives that were taken far too soon. 🕊️

Graduation season should be filled with smiles, family photos, laughter, and dreams about the future. Instead, here in Bakersfield, two 18-year-old graduates were involved in a devastating motorcycle crash just HOURS before celebrating one of the biggest milestones of their lives.

According to Bakersfield Police, speed and suspected impairment were factors in the collision. Graduation caps, gowns, and cords were left scattered across the crash scene — a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly one decision can change lives forever.

This is your reminder:

🚫 Don’t get on the road with someone impaired.
🚫 Don’t let peer pressure steal your future.

To every graduate:
