The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in
identifying a suspect involved in a commercial office vandalism investigation.
📍 On Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, at approximately 1:45 a.m., the suspect threw a rock
through the business’ front glass door in the 900 block of Truxtun Avenue before fleeing
the area. The suspect is described as:
Adult male wearing a do-rag, gray sweater, navy blue shorts, and white tennis shoes.

On Monday, June 15th, 2026, officers assigned to the Bakersfield Police Department
Special Enforcement Unit (SEU), served a search warrant in the 500 Burchfield Avenue
in southeast Bakersfield.
During a search of the property, two fi****ms were located along with approximately
2.8lbs of suspected methamphetamine, 85g of suspect co***ne, over six thousand
dollars, and items associated with the sales of narcotics.
BPD officers arrested Eduardo Gaytan (27), a member of the Vario Rexland Parque
criminal street gang. Gaytan was transported and booked in the Kern County Sheriff’s
Lerdo Justice Facility for appropriate charges.
BPD’s SEU is dedicated to suppressing gang violence within the City of Bakersfield. This
arrest is an example of illegal activities that are commonly used by gang members to
advance and grow their gang.

The Bakersfield Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in
identifying two suspects related to a garage burglary in the 7100 block of Ming Avenue.
The suspects took multiple bicycles from the garage. They are described as:
#1 – White or Hispanic male, short gray hair, and tattoos covering both arms.
Wearing a blue Cowboys shirt, jeans, and white shoes.
#2 – White or Hispanic male, wearing a black hat, black tank top, black shorts,
and black shoes.
Suspect vehicle – 2009-2014 Hyundai Sonata, stock in appearance, gray color.

On February 3, 2026, an employee at Smoke Era, located in the 9500 block of Rosedale Highway, was robbed at gunpoint by four masked suspects who stole over $3000 worth of merchandise. No suspects were identified at the time. Six days later, the store was robbed by five additional suspects. Detectives in the crimes against persons division, with assistance from the Bakersfield Police Department Gang Suppression Unit, conducted a months-long investigation into these violent incidents, resulting in 13 arrests for robbery, conspiracy, and gang-related offenses.

💙 CHILD FOUND AFTER INTERNATIONAL AMBER-STYLE ABDUCTION CASE 💙

Authorities confirmed that 5-year-old Daleza Fregoso was located safely in Mexico after being abducted. Her father, Ruben Fregoso, 40, has been arrested in connection with her kidnapping and the killing of the child’s mother.

Officials worked across borders to locate the child and bring her to safety as the investigation continues into the circumstances surrounding this tragic case.

🔹 Online predators often pretend to be another child or teenager to gain trust.
🔹 Many children share personal information online without realizing the risks.

🔹 Once a photo or video is shared online, it can be difficult—or impossible—to completely remove it.

💜 Missing Smiles Update: Layla White 💜

It is with heavy hearts that we share an update regarding Layla White, who was reported missing from Bakersfield in 2025.

According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Division, an unidentified young woman who had remained a Jane Doe for several months has now been positively identified as Layla White, who was 18 years old at the time of her passing.

Authorities stated that on February 16, 2026, Layla was struck by a train in Port Costa. Following an investigation by law enforcement and the Coroner's Division, her manner of death was determined to be su***de. Because she carried no identification, investigators were initially unable to determine her identity.

After the Coroner's Office shared information publicly and sought the community's help, a social worker recognized details from the case and provided investigators with a possible name. Through continued investigation, authorities were able to positively identify Layla and notify her family.

Our deepest condolences go out to Layla's loved ones, friends, and all those who cared about her. No family should have to endure the pain of losing a child, and our hearts are with everyone grieving this unimaginable loss.

We also extend our appreciation to the investigators, social worker, and community members whose efforts helped provide answers and bring closure to Layla's family.
