Empower with Code is fighting to close the gender gap in technology and science. Our aim is to encourage girls to pursue computer science by exposing them to real life and on screen role models. We inspire our girls by introducing them to our guest speakers, mentors, and instructors who are leaders in their fields. EDUCATE
Today 74% of girls in middle school express interest in Science and Enginee
ring but only 0.4 percent of high school girls select computer science. Empower with Code aims to promote gender diversity in the science and technology field and provide girls age 7-18 worldwide with a better understanding of careers in technology. Our curriculum provides girls with a wide range of coding experience— giving them the hard and soft skills needed to become the technologists of tomorrow. We engage engineers, developers, executives, and entrepreneurs to teach and motivate the next generation. We combine high quality instruction in programming fundamentals, web development and design, mobile App development, with exposure to real-world technology companies to create a unique learning experience that is unpatrolled to any other learning program. EMPOWER
According to a projection by The U.S. Department of Labor, there will be 1.4 million computer specialist job openings by 2020. To reach gender parity, women must fill half of these positions, or 700,000 computing jobs in 4 years. Empower with Code believes we must close the gender gap in technology. We have to empower girls to pursue computer science and to equip them with the 21st century tools for innovation and social change. We strongly believe that more women will be working in the technology and engineering fields if more girls are exposed to computer science at a young age. ENLIGHTEN
According to a recent study, nine out of ten parents want their kids to study computer science. However, many girls do not proactively pick up computer science outside of school because they believe it is not for them. The study lists academic exposure as one of the top three factors that impact whether girls will go on to study computer science. However, a majority of schools do not teach computer science. Empower with Code programs are designed to enlighten girls nationwide to pursue careers in computer science and technology. Provided with the resources, girls will be able to make more informed decisions when entering college. We don’t just offer exposure to technology, we train tomorrow’s engineers.
