Kern Community Foundation recently gathered with a representative from the Nnanedu Odeluga Memorial Fund to celebrate this year's scholarship recipient, who will be attending UC San Diego this fall to study engineering.

Over lunch, the group looked back on everything it took to get here, and looked ahead to everything still to come. This scholarship carries a legacy forward, and it was an honor to send this student off with a community behind them. Best of luck at UCSD.

Catholic Charities of Bakersfield is hosting September food distributions in Buttonwillow, Delano, and Bakersfield. This month's schedule includes a stop in Buttonwillow at St. Mary's Church, Delano at St. Mary's School, a CAPK Senior Distribution, and a Farmer's Market at the Catholic Charities office.

Kern Community Foundation's Angie Griffith, Associate Director of Scholarships, recently spent time with Nickel Family Scholarship leadership, including President Brian Grant, and several Nickel Family Scholarship recipients.

The group talked through advancements in agriculture technology, the history of the Nickel family, and how the scholarship is helping students secure internships and jobs in the industry. It was a great afternoon of real conversation, and a reminder of the impact these connections have on students building their futures.

Valley Strong Credit Union is bringing Kern County's small business owners and nonprofit leaders together for the Building Bridges Summit on Thursday, September 3 at Legends Lounge & Event Center in Bakersfield.

The event runs from 8 AM to 2 PM. It starts with a coffee and networking mixer, then moves into workshops and panels covering small business growth, nonprofit fundraising and marketing, and financial management and lending. Lunch will be provided.

Last Friday, Kern Community Foundation team members gathered for a staff retreat led by Dr. Juanita Webb. Together, we explored communication styles, strengthened team alignment, and spent time discussing the future of our organization.
