The Bakersfield Chinese Women’s Club was honored to present a special scholarship at Frontier High School this month. Many thanks to Provisional Member Elizabeth Leung for representing our club.

Hello and good evening. Family, friends, and the graduating Titans of 2026.

My name is Elizabeth Leung, and I am a provisional member of the BCWC: here to represent, talk about the club, and present the award. I am also a previous recipient of the scholarship 6 years ago, and a fellow alumnus of Frontier High School from 2020. So, I am practically shaking.

The BCWC is a social club celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Today, it is a group of women that will grace the public with its presence, mentors younger professionals, and hosts events for the public to attend.

But what hasn’t changed is that the sole goal of the BCWC is to raise funds to award deserving high school seniors who are pursuing higher education and are of Chinese descent.

This year, $20,000 has been raised by the help of generous donations. 1 student has been selected for their achievements, extracurriculars, and service to their community from Frontier High School who is going to UCSB…

The first BCWC awards ceremony for 2026 at Highland High School. Scholarship was presented to Daniel Louie by Scholarship Chair Marivic Louey and member Theresa Louie (and Daniel’s mom). Daniel will be attending Bowling Green State University, Ohio. We’re all so proud of him! 🎓 Thank you to Daniel’s mom Theresa who served as the Scholarship Chair for our club for many years running. She and Marivic are invaluable to us! ❤️

We’re participating in this Kern County Asian Chamber of Commerce event celebrating Asian/Pacific Heritage Month of May! There are many other events to check out!

We’re honored to partner with for this special AANHPI Heritage Month celebration! 🌺✨

This event is exclusively for Girl Scouts and their families, and we’re so grateful to help create a space for young leaders to learn, explore, and celebrate the rich cultures that make up our community.

The Bakersfield Chinese Women’s Club celebrated Lunar New Year and 80 years of sisterhood recently! Many thanks to President Kristine, the leadership team, the CNY committee, Sifu On King and the lion dancers, the fortune god, and all the helpers! Special thanks to the Taft Family for donating delicious oranges from California Fruit Depot for our event. We are so grateful for the wonderful members of our club and our supportive family, friends, and community. Thank you all, and happy year of the fire horse!
