The Mission at Kern County, formally The Bakersfield Rescue Mission has been serving the community since 1952. In October, 2021 we celebrated 69-years of providing hope and restoration to a hurting population in our city. The Mission at Kern County provides shelter to nearly 300-guests each night, through our Homeless Intervention Services and Christian Discipleship Residential Program. Every year, The Mission serves more than 200-thousand meals…that's more than 500 meals every day… Join the Mission at Kern County, and help us transform lives through the power of Jesus Christ!

World Food Day 🥘

A meal is more than a meal. 🍽️ It’s a moment of stability. It’s nourishment when someone may not know where their next meal is coming from. And sometimes, it’s the first step toward feeling human again.

The Mission provides three meals a day, 365 days a year—and those meals are available to people in our community, including children. This October, help us keep the table full.

At The Mission, our Christian Life Training Discipleship Program gives men the opportunity to spend a year working through recovery, classes, church and life skills—with the goal of building a life they can carry beyond our doors. For 75 years, we’ve believed people are capable of more than their worst moment.

October 2026 | Conversations on the Bench
Behind every story of homelessness, addiction, and recovery is a person. A life. A journey worth understanding.

This October, we gathered once again for Conversations on the Bench, creating space for honest discussions about the realities of homelessness, the challenges of recovery, and the lives being transformed right here on our campus.

We want to thank everyone who joined us, shared their personal stories, asked meaningful questions, and took the time to connect with the people and the purpose behind our mission.

We had the honor of opening our conversations with Pastor Alberto Bello of Collective Church, a dear friend and valued partner of The Mission.

Alberto's connection to our work is deeply personal. Having walked through addiction and experienced the challenges of recovery himself, he understands what it means to be given an opportunity to rebuild your life.

Today, through his leadership, ministry, and continued involvement with organizations like Teen Challenge, Alberto is helping others discover that their past does not have to determine their future.

During our conversation, he shared something that stayed with us:
"You can't walk on this campus and not believe in miracles."

And that's exactly what we have the privilege of witnessing every day.

Lives being restored. Hope being renewed. People finding the courage to begin again.

Alberto, thank you for your friendship, your testimony, your courage, and your unwavering belief in the work happening here. We are grateful for your partnership and the countless lives you continue to impact.

To everyone who joined us, thank you for being part of a conversation that matters.

Because understanding homelessness begins with understanding people. And lasting change begins when we choose to see them.

You can’t always see what someone is carrying.
Mental health, addiction, homelessness, trauma...they’re often connected in ways we don’t see from the outside.

That’s why at The Mission, we believe in caring for the whole person. Food. Shelter. Community. Faith. Recovery. Life skills. A path forward.
For 75 years, we’ve been here to remind people that their hardest chapter doesn’t have to be their final one.
