Hi, my name is Arthur Chairez, and this message is from both me and my wife, Cristina. We approach everything in life as a team, and it’s a blessing to serve together.

We are truly grateful to volunteer at both Crossroad and Juvenile Hall. We believe God is using us to make a difference in the lives of these youth. One of the most meaningful parts of this ministry is when we’re asked questions during or after Bible study—when someone wants to go deeper or understand more.

Those moments bring me great joy because they show genuine interest and a hunger for truth.
Leading these Bible studies has also strengthened our marriage. As we serve, we are learning to be more obedient to the Holy Spirit, and that obedience has brought growth into our relationship.

Even when we are out of town, our hearts long to be back at Crossroad or Juvenile Hall. We truly feel called to this work. I often think about eternity and how one day, someone might come up to me and say, “Do you remember me? You taught me the Bible when I was incarcerated.” That thought alone keeps me going. At the end of every Bible study, we make sure to present the Gospel. That is the most important message we can share.

My wife and I want to sincerely thank Youth for Christ for giving us the opportunity to serve. It is both a privilege and an honor to teach others about Jesus.

Alex has been attending Bible studies with some of our YFC volunteers for a while at the Kern Crossroads Facility. Just before Christmas he approached one of our volunteers and said he decided that he was interested in becoming a pastor.

Since that day he has dedicated what time, he has with our volunteers studying the Word of God and asking questions about the pastoral process. He has answered the calling to teach the Word of God even though he doesn’t know where his juvenile sentence will take him.

Many of the youth we work with in the institutions are unsure of what the immediate future holds for them, but as Alex has discovered, they can rest in the fact that regardless of their future God has a plan for them and desires to use them to reach those around them.

JJM reaches locked up youth in all 3 of our Kern County institutions. We do this through Saturday basketball clinics, a Fridays music class, partnering with Parent Life to bring a parenting class, and Weekly Church and Bible Studies.

We have been able to reach over 240 kids behind locked doors this year. Almost all of them get to hear the wonderful news of Jesus Christ with 51 of those youth deciding for the first time that would like to follow Jesus for the first time.

Patience, a freshman at CAAT, connected to Campus Life through her sister, a FHS club attendee.
Patience came to camp this past summer and faced some challenges, spending much of the week fighting with fellow campers and leaders.

One night, Patience was having a hard time, her counselor and camp director stayed up until 1am to talk with her and calm her down.
In January of this year, Patience signed up for Winter Camp. On the very first night of camp she came up to the camp director with tears in her eyes. She expressed not just her sorrow and regret, but apologized for her behavior the previous summer. The appreciation of the grace she had been shown and love poured out on her, even after everything, overwhelmed her.

Cody is a freshman at North High School, and this is his first year being involved with Campus Life. Some friends invited him to club, and since then he has faithfully attended every week.

A few months ago, Cody attended his first Campus Life event. A Campus Life staff member, Josiah, picked him up and drove him to the event. As they left Cody’s neighborhood, Cody pointed to a woman crossing the street and told Josiah that she was his mom. He explained that she was living on the streets because of drug addiction and that he now lives with his grandmother, who cannot allow his mom to stay with them because of the drugs.

In that moment, Josiah was able to talk with Cody about how God sees and knows his mom and the situation she is facing. He reminded Cody that God hears our prayers and cares deeply about what his family is going through. Josiah was able to encourage Cody and support him during a very meaningful conversation.

Please pray for Cody’s family and for healing in their lives. Over the past several months, Cody has continued to lean into the community he discovered through Campus Life. He has attended multiple events since that first one and faithfully comes to club each week, often bringing along as many friends as he can.

In January, Cody also began attending Parkside Church’s youth group with some of his Campus Life leaders. Now Cody is building connections within God’s community both at his school and in the church. Please pray that Cody would continue to grow closer to God, learn more about Him, and experience the strength and love of Christ in every circumstance he faces.

Jeffery is a sophomore at Taft Union High School who first got involved with Campus Life last year. He began attending club every week, and it was there that Jeffery heard the Gospel for the first time and decided to follow Jesus.

Through Campus Life’s connection with the local church, leaders invited Jeffery to attend a local youth group where he has continued to learn more about God and what it means to have a relationship with Him. This past December, Jeffery completed baptism classes and publicly declared his faith through baptism.

Jeffery faces significant challenges in his personal life. He has experienced a difficult home situation and has moved in and out of foster homes since he was young. Despite these hardships, Jeffery continues to show up to club every week because he knows he will find people there who genuinely love and care for him. He enjoys hearing about Jesus, playing games, and sharing pizza with the community.

In Jeffery’s own words, he asks: “Please pray for my emotional pain from my family, for my depression, and for the uncertainty about my future. Also, that I live past 27.”

Please pray for the Campus Life leaders and the church community who are walking alongside Jeffery—that they would continue to shine the hope of Christ in his life.

Maryjane is a junior at Centennial High School who has been consistently attending Campus Life for the past couple of years. She regularly participates in weekly gatherings, special events, and camps. During this time, Campus Life leaders have intentionally invested in her life—taking her out to lunch, meeting with her for mentoring appointments, and even picking her up to attend church youth group.

Through these relationships, Maryjane has heard the Gospel many times. While she has not yet reached a point where she is ready to place her faith in Jesus, she continues to come to Campus Life because she feels deeply loved and cared for and enjoys the community she has found there.

Please pray that her Campus Life leaders would continue to faithfully demonstrate and share the love of Jesus with Maryjane, and that the Lord would work in her heart and lead her to believe in Him.
