What We Do:
Unlike many of the large nonprofits that are a chapter of a large organization, the Volunteer Center is a small, independent nonprofit with no "parent" organization to cover expenses if needed. We have one small revenue stream so we rely on grants and fundraisers to continue our programs. Programs:
R.S.V.P. (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program for seniors over age 55 who would like to
become a part of Senior Corps. RSVP volunteers show how you can apply skills and wisdom you've acquired throughout your life to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Court-Appointed Community Service
Through our court-appointed community service, we send clients to various organizations in order for them to complete their hours all while helping out our Kern County organizations. Some of the Kern County Organizations include:
Golden Empire Gleaners
Habitat for Humanity
Bakersfield Homeless Shelter
Hart Park
Kern County Waste Management
Sam Lynn Ballpark
Parks & Recreation (Delano, Wasco, Shafter)
Kern County Food Bank
Kern County Fairgrounds
Kern Animal Services
Alpha House (Taft)
Stay Focused Ministries
various churches throughout Kern County
We provide volunteer help to our local non-profit, governmental and health related agencies. The Volunteer Center of Kern County is part of a coalition of p***c and community agencies committed to preserving and bettering Kern County. Disaster Response Center
In the event of a local disaster, The Volunteer Center VRC Volunteer Corps will assist Kern County Office of Emergency Services in coordinating spontaneous volunteers responding to serve during the disaster. We train and staff our Volunteer Reception Center in the event of a disaster. Most recently we staffed the COVID Testing Center held at the Kern County Fairgrounds.
