A Note From Our Founder, Sisie Jones:
I am shaking as I write this.
I am so excited. I am overwhelmed. My heart is absolutely soaring.
A miracle has fallen on us.
If you know me, you know how deeply I care about this community. You know how much of my heart goes into trying to find ways to save more animals here in Kern County—not just through spay and neuter, but by helping the dogs already sitting in our shelters who desperately need somewhere to go.
And this week, something incredible happened.
Last month, we planned to send 10 dogs to our rescue partners in British Columbia.
We ended up saving 18.
Eighteen dogs left Kern County behind and began new lives where families were waiting to welcome them home.
This month, we committed to doing it again. We said yes to another 10 dogs who are now in our care preparing to leave for Canada on September 12th.
I was already overjoyed.
And then this happened.
A rescue organization from another beautiful U.S. state came to our local shelter and saved 21 dogs from the euthanasia list!!!
Twenty-one.
They loaded them up and drove them toward a future they almost didn't have.
I can't tell you who this incredible organization is just yet, but I promise you will know soon. What I can tell you is that I am so incredibly grateful for them.
And then they asked us a question.
Could Together Spay It Forward foster 10 more dogs for them?*
There was only one answer in my heart.
💛 YES! 💛
So right now, Together Spay It Forward is fostering and caring for 20 dogs temporarily.
Ten are preparing to leave for Canada.
Ten are preparing to leave with our new rescue partner here in the US.
Twenty dogs from our community who are getting a fresh start.
I keep thinking about what that really means.
Twenty dogs who won't be sitting in an overcrowded shelter wondering what happens next.
Twenty dogs who are being fed, cared for and loved while they wait.
Twenty dogs whose stories are changing right in front of us.
This is why I care so much about building relationships with rescue partners. This is why I keep asking what else we can do. This is why I keep trying to find another door to open for the animals of Kern County.
Because when that door opens, we have to be ready to walk through it!
And right now, I need our community behind us.
Caring for 20 dogs at once is a HUGE undertaking. We are providing boarding, food, veterinary care, health certificates, supplies and all of the daily care they need before their journeys.
For our Canada dogs, $300 sponsors one dog's entire journey. If you can't give $300, please know that any amount helps us get them there. You can also shop our Amazon Wishlist to send food, bedding, treats, cleaning supplies and other necessities directly to the dogs in our care.
I want to keep saying yes to saving these dogs!
I want us to even save more every month.
I want more lifesaving partnerships like this.
I want more dogs leaving Kern County for homes and rescue organizations waiting to welcome them.
And I truly believe we can do it. But we cannot do it alone.
Every person who donates, volunteers, sends supplies, shares our posts or simply believes in what Together Spay It Forward is building is part of this.
You are helping us create possibilities for animals who didn't have them before.
Today, my heart is just so incredibly full.
Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for helping me keep saying yes.
And thank you, from the very bottom of my heart, for loving the animals of Kern County alongside me.
With so much love and gratitude,
Sisie Jones
