WE UNDERSTAND LIFE CAN BE A JUGGLE AND THAT’S WHY WE’VE INCLUDED A TAEKWONDO LESSON EVERY AFTERNOON AT INSPIRE.
Our children participate in a 35 minute Taekwondo lesson with our Black belt instructors. These lessons are non contact and cater to all skill levels. We incorporate traditional, modern training techniques and gamification to reward the children. Our program takes students from white belt all the way to black belt.

How cool will it be for your child to achieve their black belt before heading to high school?

How to Practice Taekwondo at Home – A Beginner’s Guide
The average Taekwondo school holds about 3 classes per week at 1 hour each, which means the average student pays for 3 hours of weekly instruction and lessons. If you are serious about improving in Taekwondo, however, you should be practicing everything you learn at home as well. Consider this kind of additional training as homework. The more you practice, the more acclimated your body becomes to the rigorous movements. Training at home is easier than it sounds. In this post, we’ll go over everything you need to prepare your home for Taekwondo training.

So how do you practice Taekwondo at home? First, you have to find an open space you will comfortable training. Just like in class, you should start every training session with stretches and warm-ups. Then you want to follow that with some conditioning exercises. Now you are ready to practice your kicks and your Poomsae forms. Finally, you will also need the proper motivation. Most people do not have the discipline to practice on a daily basis. If you are one of those people, it is up to you to find a proper source of motivation to continue your training. All training can be done without buying any additional equipment or products. There are, however, certain supplemental equipment you can buy that will greatly help you in your training but they are not necessary.

Find Open Space at Home for your Training

Believe it or not, you do not need a lot of space when you are training at home. In fact, if you have an open space of about 100 square feet (10 feet wide, and 10 feet in length), that should be more than enough to accommodate you, especially if you are training alone. To get a better understanding of the amount of space you need, think about the size of a regulation size sparring mat area. I typically find either the basement or garage to be ideal places in the home to practice Taekwondo.

Chief Taekwondo Moves
The Stance
Stance, which refers to the way in which you stand, is the most important thing that comes into play when a person is attempting to learn this martial art. The stance is the most elemental factor to take into consideration, and all future lessons depend on how correct your stance is. Holding the right stance also gives you more freedom of movement as far as throwing punches and kicks are concerned. The following are the basic stances that every student must be aware of:
Walking stance
Horse riding stance
Back stance
Tiger stance or Cat stance
Front stance or long-forward stance
If a person has learned how to hold these stances correctly, it becomes much simpler to learn and perform all the moves.

Blocks
The most basic moves are the blocks, which are specially designed to help you avoid receiving a blow by your opponent. You can use pretty much any part of your body to block an impending blow, and then get an opportunity to strike a blow yourself, soon after that. Blocks are required to be fast and strong in order to thwart an attack on yourself, and these are given great importance when a person is being taught the art of taekwondo. Each of the different kinds of blocks requires a twist at the end of the move in order to combat the oncoming blow effectively. The techniques for blocking can only be picked up with a lot of practice. Examples of some of the blocks are the low block, the middle block, the high block, the outer forearm block, and the knife block.

Attacks
Taekwondo originated with the use of the legs purely, but over the years, it has evolved to include strikes and blows by the arms as well. You cannot learn how to attack unless you know how to defend though. So, the moves for attack will be taught to you by your teacher much later. The punch has now become a primary weapon in these moves, and mastering a punch is given great importance. Here are some basic punching and kicking moves that you need to know when you start learning taekwondo. These include:

Punching hand twists
Back-fist strike
Double knife-hand strike
Front kick
Roundhouse kick
Back kick
Axe kick
Side-kick

sparring tips for taekwondo

1. Learn how to spar early
If you have a child in taekwondo, or you're just starting out as an adult beginner, start learning how to spar right away. While you most likely will not win as a yellow or white belt, you will get the experience of what it feels like to be out sparring with another person. Ask your instructor to tell you when you're ready to start learning to spar, and enroll in a class that allows you to develop those skills. Starting early will pay off in the long run.

2. Stay light on your feet
Taekwondo is a sport that is primarily on the feet, particularly compared to karate, which focuses on the hands. So when you're out sparring in taekwondo, think about your feet and staying light on them at all times. Staying light on your toes and ready to react on either foot can help you dodge kicks and move out of the way quickly. It's also a good method for learning to stay balanced no matter what comes at you.

3. Stay relaxed
Most people are scared and anxious when they go out to spar. This is completely normal for a competitive situation, particularly one in which other people are watching. But it's important to learn to stay relaxed while you're sparring. Try practising a breathing technique or reciting a mantra to calm your mind before you start. Staying calm in your body can ensure that you don't panic and lose your balance or do something you didn't mean to do.

4. Stretch
Because sparring requires so many kicks, it's essential to stretch before you spar. Think about doing dynamic stretching that gets your heart pumping and your blood flowing, like toe touches or jumping jacks. Stretching adequately ensures that you won't tear or strain anything when you go to kick your opponent. Also, stretch after the match as well. Stretching helps increase your flexibility, which also makes you a better competitor.

How to Be a Good Taekwondo StudentIf you do Taekwondo and would like to be a better student or if you would like to join Taekwondo the following are important things to keep in mind.

Taekwondo tradition is based upon decent human values such as self discipline (Guk-Gi), good conduct, decent (Ye-Jol) behavior, sincerity, honesty and integrity (Yom-Chi). A Taekwondo practitioner (Suryun-Saeng) shall not misbehave ever if provoked or harassed. He would react on the physical assault or abuse but refrain from emerging as a nuisance. He shall respect law of the land and would assist the enforcement authority against anti social and the unlawful acts and helps to prevail peace and security in the society. Taekwondo means ‘the art of the hand and foot.’

One should respect his senior (Sun Bae-Nim) in belt grade and elsewhere irrespective of age & s*x or status and should address him or her as Sir (Son Saeg-Nim) or Madam (Puin or Madam) in due respect (Jon-Gyung) and shall behave in humility & courtesy. A Taekwondoin should treat his Master (Sah Bum-Nim) as ‘ideal' commanding full respect and care. One should treat his junior (Hu Bae-Nim) in the training ground or Taekwondo Gymnasium (Do-jang) as a caring elder who would prefer pardon to punishment to induce correction in techniques and behavior amongst them. The generosity may be suspended in the course of training or order to teach lessons through rigorous physical involvement. There is a mutual understanding between the master and the learner (Suryun-Saeng). The Taekwondoins duplicate their Master's style & tradition as an identity.

Taekwondo begins (See-Jak) & ends (Ko-Mahn) with display of courtesy confirmed by bowing (Kyung-Nae) in submission of the senior by the junior at first sight. It's an unavoidable obligation on the training ground or Taekwondo Gym. One should obey commands of their seniors as concerned with their lessons & practice only. This is a Taekwondo tradition which transforms a commoner into a decent person and responsible citizen in due course.

How to Do Basic Taekwondo Standing Stretches
Now open your legs, with our shoulders apart, keep one leg straight. So one, stretch down, and other side, two. Now we're going to go for a deeper stretch. We're going to go down, one, and switch to the other side, two. If you guys have a little trouble doing this stretch, use your hands, it's OK. So again, one, using your hands, and two, and up. So I would normally hold each stretches maybe about 10 to 30, so even a minute, depending on you. So these are some of the basic warm up stretches in Taekwondo.

Basic Taekwondo Movements
Straight Punch. The fist starts from a chamber on the hip, and is then thrust straight forward. Impact is made on the two big knuckles. According to the 14 basics, it should be performed from the horse stance and front stance. (All of these punch combinations make up 3 of the original 14 movements.)
Low block. This is the first block you learn in Taekwondo. Put your fist to your opposite shoulder, then sweep it downward in front of the pelvis, stopping on or just bast the same-side leg of the blocking arm.

Axe Kick/Swing Kick(Naeryeo Chagi):
This kick gets its name, because it comes down the in the same motion as swinging an axe. You use your heel(the hardest part of your foot) to either strike at the opponent’s collar bone or the top of their head. It can be thrown circulating inward, outward, or straight up and down.
