Huge congratulations to Christy, who officially moved into her very own home yesterday, September 22, 2026! 🔑✨
Christy’s journey to this moment shows incredible strength and resilience. When she first came to our facility on April 22, 2024, she was facing homelessness for the very first time in her life. For years, Christy had lived with her mother, serving as her dedicated caregiver.
When her mother’s health declined to the point where she required specialized nursing home care, Christy was unexpectedly forced to move out of their shared home. Entering a shelter for the first time is a massive adjustment, and Christy naturally needed some time to adapt to this completely new environment. But once she settled in, she truly made the most of every resource available.
She consistently worked hard to build her next chapter, participating in Project Hire Up, engaging with mental health support services, and attending local job fairs. Throughout her entire stay, Christy was a kind, steady, and incredibly cooperative member of our shelter community.
Having always lived with her family, Christy had never lived completely on her own before. Moving into her own apartment came with some understandable anxiety, but she chose to be brave and take that massive step forward anyway. Today, she is celebrating the ultimate milestone: having her very first place to call her own.
A beautiful journey like this takes a dedicated village, and we want to give a big shout out to her M St Navigator Jeremy, CAPK Cal-Aim, and The Open-Door Network for their incredible support and guidance in assisting Christy through this entire process! 🙌💼
