The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall Comes to Bainbridge, Georgia

This will be February 13.

Back in November when the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall was at the Earle B. May Boat Basin, some visitors left items at the base of the section where their friend or family’s name appeared. In keeping with the sanctity of that space, the Decatur County Historical & Genealogical Society will honorably dispose of the items left there via burial.

A replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that sits in Washington D.C. is now in South Georgia.

Almost fifty volunteers showed up to assemble the memorial wall in Bainbridge Thursday. It will be on display through the weekend.

We were surprised when the Wall manager told us he had an additional section to display. In addition to The Wall we have another 70 feet honoring 911, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Operation Sentinel. Thanks to the volunteers who came out today and a special thanks to Greg Harrell’s construction class at BHS. Opening ceremonies are at 5.30 today.
