When considering programming or producing any play or musical, it's good to review the script for any ableism that is not critical to the plot or to the progression of the story.
Often, it is simply an aging issue with an older script. Playwrights and/or rights holders are typically happy to approve replacement words and are often very appreciative of the issue being flagged, as they do not want to be needlessly offensive, especially when the offensive word is not important to the story.
