It's incredible what happens when resources flow to local women who are protecting nature and meeting community needs. Here's a perfect example.

Planet Women distributed $3,000 seed grants to 24 environmental leaders who recently graduated from our Women's Leadership Circle (WLC) program. They come from 15+ African countries and all work in forest restoration and nature conservation.

Over eight months, the WLC cohort builds a sisterhood, exchanges knowledge and deepens their skills across storytelling, impact and influence at work, fundraising, and other areas. Upon graduation, these leaders can apply for a$3,000 seed grant to invest in their professional or personal development.

Scroll through to see a few of the amazing projects supported by this round of seed grants!

From January to June, we held our first writing fellowship with Indigenous Women of the Colorado River Basin.

The Fellowship was designed to support the growth of writers who are passionate about the cultural, ecological, and natural history of the Colorado River, and to document Indigenous women’s stories. It's part of Planet Women’s aim to create a multi-generational and inclusive movement of environmental leadership.

During the six-month Fellowship, the four writers – chyenne, Nadira, Valerisa, and Stephanie – built on their distinct ideas: a memoir, an essay, a children’s book, and a dystopian climate-fiction (cli-fi) story.

In June, the Fellows submitted their manuscripts and each received a $3,000 stipend to go toward publishing and marketing costs. We're grateful to the Fellows for their work and to Re:wild and Laurie Scheer (New Nature Writers) for their crucial support!

Planning is underway for the third annual Women and Water Convening this November! The Convening was co-created in 2023 to bring together Indigenous women and allies who are stewarding and protecting the Colorado River. Our shared goal is to address water issues by advancing community-driven approaches.

The last two Women and Water Convenings (2023 and 2024) brought together 136 Indigenous women and allies, representing 10 tribes, in the San Xavier District of the Tohono O'odham Nation in Arizona.

Attendees included professionals in conservation, the WASH sector, food sovereignty, cultural preservation, and philanthropy, as well as members of creative or academic institutions.

This year, the Convening is expanded to three days and will be held on the Navajo Nation. Learn more about this unique gathering in our blog post below!

As a small nonprofit, donors have always made our work possible. Now, we – and our partners – find ourselves in a particularly difficult moment, as U.S. federal funding has been slashed, increasing pressure on the philanthropic sector.

Your donation to Planet Women helps deliver leadership programs and low-barrier grants to women leaders who are protecting nature and supporting communities. Together, we're building powerful networks that are diverse, multi-generational and co-created by people typically left out of environmental decision-making.

Will you support this work by making a gift today? You can donate here:

Planet Women's Center for Gender, Equity & the Environment (CGEE) initiative delivers leadership development, gender mainstreaming training and seed grants to leaders at African environmental organizations.

All offerings increase gender equity in environmental organizations and projects. What we see, though, is that many participants become gender champions not just at work but in their home and community as well.

Hear stories from two CGEE participants in our Spring Impact Report!

What a joy to join in the 2025 New Horizons in Conservation Convening hosted by Justice, Equity, Diversity and Sustainability Initiative.

Janet Nguyen, Planet Women's SVP of the 100 Women Pathway, shared a panel with LA Caldwell, a participant in the Pathway's Atlanta cohort. Their panel talk discussed how to challenge assumptions and build community.

They had a fortifying and rejuvenating reunion with more incredible leaders from the 100 Women Pathway community ❤️‍🔥 and Janet was star-struck by meeting Dr. Dorceta Taylor.

The New Horizons conference explored key issues including stakeholder engagement, environmental technology and data, food security and sustainability, strengthening conservation efforts, and environmental policy and advocacy. Thank you to the JEDSI team and all who contributed to this remarkable event.
