EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT will officially close its doors December 2025.
The closure of EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT does not at all reflect my love and support for Burma and its people. Now at 78 years of age, I must acknowledge that my level of energy and stamina is not what it used to be. In addition, logistics of transferring funds in and out of Burma is nearly impossible now due to the military's control.
Since starting in 2012, EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT has published and distributed throughout the country thousands of ethnic folktale books for primary grade children. With our donors' support, we built a primary grade school in the Delta. Raised high on 12' cement 'feet', the school survives the annual flooding and serves as an emergency hub for the region. Women in Bago, empowered with small micro credit loans, stand tall with dignity and strength as they open businesses (beauty parlor, fresh-made sticky rice, bicycle repair, etc.). Their income allows their adolescent age daughters to stay in school. Teaching adolescent age girls in the Karenni State to write a resume, search for jobs online, and build confidence to sell themselves in interviews resulted in their acceptance into their dream jobs. These are just some of EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT's amazing highlights over the years.
It has been an honor and joy for me over the past 13+ years. Although saddened to not be able to continue, I am so very grateful.
