Did you know?

Sleeping with your bedroom door closed can help slow the spread of fire, reduce smoke exposure, and keep temperatures lower during a house fire.

It's a simple habit that takes seconds but could provide valuable time in an emergency.

Before you go to bed tonight, ask yourself:

Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed?

πŸš’ A Day in the Life of a Volunteer Firefighter

Most people see the fire truck when it arrives.

What they don't always see is everything that happens before.

Our volunteers are parents, teachers, business owners, students, and neighbors. They go to work, spend time with their families, and live everyday lives just like everyone else.

Then the alert comes in.

Without hesitation, they leave what they're doing, respond to emergencies, and serve the community they call home.

This flyer represents more than a day. It represents a commitment to answering the call whenever help is needed.

❀️ Our volunteers don't just serve the community. They ARE the community.

Thank you to every member of Bahama Fire Protection District for your dedication, sacrifice, and service to Durham County.

πŸ“ The Story Behind Bahama

Have you ever wondered how Bahama got its name?

The name "Bahama" is believed to have been formed from the first syllables of three local family names:

πŸ”Ή Ba – Ball
πŸ”Ή Ha – Harris
πŸ”Ή Ma – Mangum

Three families. One community.

For generations, Bahama has been built on neighbors helping neighbors, strong community ties, and a commitment to looking out for one another. Those same values continue today through the residents, businesses, churches, schools, and organizations that make Bahama such a special place to call home.

At Bahama Fire Protection District, we're proud to serve a community with such deep roots and a strong sense of connection.

πŸ”₯ FIRE FACT FRIDAY πŸ”₯

Did you know your vehicle's exhaust system can reach temperatures of 1,000Β°F or more?

When parked over dry grass, those extreme temperatures can ignite vegetation in seconds, potentially starting a fast-moving fire before you even realize it.

βœ… Park on pavement, gravel, or other cleared surfaces whenever possible.
βœ… Avoid parking over tall grass, especially during hot and dry conditions.
βœ… Take a quick look underneath your vehicle before leaving it unattended.

A simple parking choice can help prevent a wildfire and protect lives, property, and our community.

Stay safe. Stay aware.

Today, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we also take a moment to honor those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy every day. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Bahama Fire Protection would like to thank all who have served and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
