Three ways to enjoy Wyalusing State Park in early spring (even if trails are muddy)

Early spring at Wyalusing can be cool, damp, and muddy—and still absolutely worth the trip. Here are three easy ways to enjoy the park before summer crowds arrive:

Soak in the bluff‑top views
The overlooks 500 feet above the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers give you stunning scenery without needing to hike long, muddy trails.

Watch migrating birds and eagles
The Mississippi River flyway brings hawks, warblers, and other migrating birds through the area, and early spring is prime time for viewing—especially from the bluffs and open viewpoints.

Explore the river backwaters by canoe or kayak
On calmer days, the marked canoe trail through the river sloughs lets you see waterfowl, aquatic plants, and backwater wildlife up close, with less mud than a typical hike.

Dress in layers, bring boots you don’t mind getting dirty, and pack binoculars if you have them. Early spring is one of the park’s quietest—and most dramatic—times to visit.

Harvest Festival Returns September 27, 2025
The Friends of Wyalusing State Park are excited to announce the return of the annual Harvest Festival, scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 3-8 pm. This much-loved community tradition promises an autumn evening full of fun, family activities, and support for the park we all cherish.
Last year’s festival was a resounding success, with 125 pumpkins carved by families and children of all ages. While we weren’t quite “dancing on the tables,” from the music provided that night, there was no shortage of laughter, smiles, and community spirit. The silent auction was once again a highlight, featuring a wide selection of items donated by our extraordinarily generous donors. Bidders were thrilled with their winnings, and every dollar raised went directly back into Wyalusing State Park—funding educational programs, projects, and improvements for visitors of all ages.
Donations are welcome either in the form of silent auction items or cash contributions.
