Did you feel the love today? We did! đź’•

This afternoon’s *Marking Moments: In Love and Longing* concert was a beautiful celebration of connection, emotion, and storytelling through music. We are so proud of every singer who brought these themes to life with such honesty and artistry.

A special highlight of the day was presenting our Summer Scholarships to two outstanding young artists:
✨ Madeline Lee (Syosset High School), who performed “Will He Like Me?” from *She Loves Me* (Harnick & Bock), and will be attending the MPulse Musical Theatre Workshop at the University of Michigan this summer.
✨ Marissa Vollweiler (Plainview-Old Bethpage High School), who performed “Must the Winter Come So Soon?” from Samuel Barber’s opera *Vanessa*, and will attend the Queens Summer Vocal Institute at Queens College.

We couldn’t be more excited to support these talented musicians as they continue their journeys. Bravi to all!

Composer Spotlight: Joan Johnson Drewes

This Sunday, the Babylon Chorale is proud to present the world premiere of The One Word by composer Joan Johnson Drewes.

Set to the text of Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem The Dove, this new work reflects on how love can restore joy, even in life’s most difficult moments. Earlier this season, Joan joined the Chorale in rehearsal, working directly with our singers and sharing the story behind the music, making this premiere especially meaningful for all of us.

Be among the first to hear "The One Word" performed live as part of Marking Moments: In Love and Longing.

Most recently Ms. Vollweiler was a finalist in the NY/NJ division of the Schmidt Vocal Arts High School Competition. Ms. Vollweiler is a dedicated member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra’s Nassau County Chamber Chorale and studies under the private tutelage of soprano Jennifer Grimaldi Toohey at the Long Island Studio of Music. Marissa has been achieving top scores at NYSSMA vocal festivals since the 4th grade and has had the honor of performing over the years with choirs in numerous Nassau All County Music Festivals. This summer, she will attend the MPulse Musical Theatre Program at the University of Michigan.

Well, whoever invited Elsa to Long Island… she’s officially overstayed her welcome ❄️

Due to the forecasted (and currently arriving!) snowstorm, Babylon Chorale rehearsal is cancelled for Monday, February 23. Stay warm, stay safe, and maybe don’t have too much fun building a Jared-sized snowman ⛄️
