Meet Emily! Emily joined the M3P fam several years ago before taking a hiatus to become an amazing social worker and most recently get married! Now she's back on the team helping to create some dope group mentoring curriculum and serve as a group mentor herself. Her intelligence, creativity, and social work skills are a huge asset us to M3P, but we're even luckier that she's such a natural at engaging with teens and building trust and connection with them. Emily, we love you and are so grateful to have you serve at M3P again!

Throwback to Study Hall during our After School Program! In this picture our Executive Director Adrian was helping then-7th grader Jasmin with some math homework while she munched on some M3P-provided snacks. Before Covid-19 hit, our teens were able to spend the first hour of our programming sitting, snacking, and doing homework in a peaceful environment designed for them. We've realized that we took a lot of things for granted - to be able to sit in a room and just be with people, not worrying about being six feet a part or having to wear a mask - and are grateful that despite everything going on right now, we've recently been able to start back with tutoring virtually. We value sitting with our teens and being alongside them in not only their academic journey but also through their personal growth. We're excited and looking forward to the (hopefully soon) day when we can see teens back at our in-person After-School Program, with social distancing norms instilled of course.

For MYTHIRDPLACE, Giving Tuesday is about more than just giving money to the various organizations making a difference in this world.

To us, it's a reminder of our every day's work: giving hope to teens who are on the brink of giving up; giving advice to the girl unsure of what to do with her life; giving community to a young man struggling with family problems and isolation during a pandemic; and more.

Giving Tuesday is all about the power each of us has to make a difference in our communities. We invite you to make a difference by making a financial donation in whatever way you can, sharing this post, and creating a personal Giving Tuesday fundraiser for MYTHIRDPLACE on your page. Simply begin to make a post on your Facebook, click the 3 dots in the "Add to Your Post" bar at the bottom, and select "Raise Money." Facebook is matching donations given for Giving Tuesday!

We know from experience that every act of giving, no matter how big or small, all adds up to make a lifelong difference for the young people that we serve.

Throwback to Famsgiving last year! We have a tradition each year of bringing the M3P Fam together for a big potluck the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Last year we had an incredible time, and lots of memories (including knocking over an entire table of food - luckily all but the corn was saved! Haha.) While we're bummed to not be able to come together in the same way this year, we know it's worth it to stay safe and can't wait to celebrate next year. In the meantime we wish all of you in our greater M3P Fam a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Meet Trinity! Trinity has been volunteering with MYTHIRDPLACE through our after-school program for several years, ever since she was a freshman in college at APU. She is one of the most gentle and thoughtful people and mentors we know. She is a great listener and even better at giving advice, always able to help teens make good decisions and there to comfort them through a hard day. Every time she walks in the room, Trinity immediately engages the teens with a hug and a smile and love to hang out and play games with them. She is currently home in the Sacramento area due to the pandemic so it's been a long minute since we've been able to see her in person, but we never forget her amazing heart and impact on our teens. Trinity, we love that you wear your heart on your sleeve and are always willing to cultivate relationships with teens. We’re so blessed to have you as mentor at MYTHIRDPLACE and can't wait to see you again soon!

Throwback to the Great MYTHIRDPLACE Bake-Off! The picture above shows our teens in their groups, baking and submitting their delicious results to Adrian, the judge for this high stakes competition. You'll also see one of our dope OG mentors, Priscilla, helping give leadership to one of the groups.

The week prior, teens had the opportunity to break into their groups and decide what they would bake and request the ingredients they would need to create their masterpieces. The day of the competition, they had one hour to bake and would be judged on areas of taste, teamwork, and creativity. The results: hilarity and deliciousness. One of the teams even made their cake look like Adrian (kinda) to try and score some extra points! Haha.

Activities like this baking competition give fun, hands-on, applicable real life skills and allow us to be intentional about getting both the girls and guys to be in the kitchen together, and break stigmas about who should or shouldn't be cooking. After everything was all said and done, the teens were all able to enjoy their creations, and were encouraged to bring their new-found baking skills home to their families.

Meet Isis! Isis is going into the 8th grade this year, though we met her a few years ago when she came into M3P with her friend Jasmin. She is super smart, incredibly witty, and is always cracking sarcastic jokes. If you spend just 10 minutes with her you'll find that she’s a deep thinker and very mature for her age, always being on top of her responsibilities and quick to follow direction. She's also a ton of fun to be around and has been a joy to have as a part of the M3P Fam. Isis, we’re so grateful to have you as a part of MYTHIRDPLACE! We love you and are excited to see your face in-person again soon!

Throwback to FAMCAMP 2018 at Castaic Lake! FAMCAMP is a yearly trip we take with our teens and mentors to one of the several state parks, beaches, or forests, in partnership with California State Parks which provides us with all the necessities to go camping. At FAMCAMP, teens are challenged to step out of their comfort zones, fully engage in the camping experience, and engage in teambuilding and leadership development together. At this particular FAMCAMP, we discovered when we arrived that the kayaks and paddle boats that had been available to us in previous years wouldn't be available this year. We were all a little disappointed, to say the least. Luckily, one of our mentors Wendy was a total G.O.A.T, made several phone calls, and was able to get a water program outside of Castaic Lake to come provide us with kayaks and paddle boats. This picture shows Dae (front), Sydney (middle), and Jesse (back) out on the water enjoying themselves along with the rest of our crew thanks to Wendy's amazing determination. What could have been a disappointing trip ended up being a great memory and lots of fun for the M3P Fam.

Meet Ariana! She is currently in 10th grade but started coming when she was in 7th grade with her twin brother. Ariana is super sweet, loves to laugh (this photo actually shows her a second before she's about to crack up laughing), and is a great friend who is always down to hangout. We have seen her grow so much in the past three years, and we are especially proud of how she has grown in her desire to serve and love her community. We haven't been able to see her as much as we've wanted since she moved a bit further away, but we still keep in touch with her virtually and are always excited to see her when she comes around. Ariana, we love your bubbly personality and your heart to serve! You will always be a part of the M3P fam and we miss you very much.

Throwback to when APU LASA visited MYTHIRDPLACE. LASA is the Latin American Student Association at Azusa Pacific University and they joined us back in 2016 to educate our teens on various aspects Latino culture. The time was rich as many teens in attendance are themselves part of the Latino-American community.. Here at MYTHIRDPLACE, we love partnering with different groups as they can come in and teach our teens about diverse cultures. We're grateful for the time APU LASA took to come in and we can't wait to get back to LASA and other groups visiting us to share with The M3P Fam.

Meet Serena! Serena is a senior in high school and joined a little over a year ago with a group of friends who wanted to grow in their relationships with God. We didn't see her much at first because she was so involved in school, where she is passionate about and involved in leadership for the sports medicine program, which she plans to study in college. She can be more on the quiet side, but once she opens up you learn that she is reliable, someone you can always count on, and always willing to grow and work on herself. She brings a sense of peace to any environment that she is in, and she's always willing to give her thoughtful and valuable input in conversations. Serena, we love your willingness to have deep conversations and be raw and real with people. We love you and are so blessed to have you as a part of the M3P Fam!
