We’re looking for Standard Bearers…

Do you run, or does your child belong to a Uniformed Youth Organisation?

If so, this may be of interest to you.

We will shortly be opening a Standard Bearer Training School, offering any help we can to budding Standard Bearers, in a bid to increase the number of standards on parade at various parades and remembrance services in South Ayrshire (in particular)

Here at Monkton and Prestwick RBLS we have 3 standards, but only currently 1 Standard Bearer, so we are on a recruiting drive. You may be invited to carry one of our standards, or represent your own youth organisation.

Although we are The Royal British Legion, we will teach members of other organisations, Sea Cadets, Air Cadets, Army Cadets, Girls and Boys Brigade, Scouts and Guides etc, even the younger members.
We are happy to work with any uniformed organisation.

The venue is yet to be confirmed, but training will take place over a 5 – 6 week period on a weekday evening and the classes will last approximately 1 – 2 hours.

If you are interested in coming along, or finding out more, please get in touch.

P.M. Through here.

We are looking for some help.

We are a very small but active branch and are looking for some volunteers to help us run things and to take part in our remembrance services etc.

We need:
A Bugler (or Cornet player) no matter what age, as long as you can play the Last Post and Reveille.

A website developer, or social media whizz, again any age.

New members.
Do you fancy joining us?
Are you ex-military, or have a family link?

Contact Gordon on 07824 559 038 for any of the above.

A message from our minister.

I hope the service in Ayr went well today and the wind didn't cause too much havoc!

As some of you will know, my intention was to go to Prestwick Cross this morning to Remember the Fallen.

On arrival, there were a few members of the public gathered there. To my delight, I saw one of the regular buglers from Kingcase Church appearing round the corner with his bugle.

Saying that this was likely to be his last time of bugling, he offered to play the Last Post and Reveille at the appointed time. As 11:00 drew near, a group of about 40-50 schoolchildren from Heathfield Primary appeared, who said that they had come to Remember, not thinking that there would be a "service" today.

Binyon's Lines were said, the bugler bugled (at a safe distance) Kohima came after Reveille, the children placed some crosses and said the Flanders Fields poem. All in all, there must have been upwards of seventy people there to pay tribute at Prestwick Cross this year. It all happened spontaneously without any premeditation, just members of the public coming together to pay their tribute. What a wonderful and uplifting morning it was for that.

Best wishes

Douglas

2020 Remembrance Sunday, what a strange one!!!

99 years without a hitch, and on the 100th anniversary a pandemic causes the whole thing to be scaled back....

Never mind, "Lest we Forget" we were still out there, socially distanced, of course, thanks to all who were able to turn out to support such an important cause. Let's hope that 2021 will allow us a "full turnout"
