It rarely snows in this area. We have had two really cold weekends so far. The first covered the plants in a thin layer of ice and the ground was crunchy. The second weekend we saw actual snow instead of ice, but it was gone by the afternoon.

A few years ago I planted fruit trees. This is an effort and lesson in patience as most fruit trees take years before producing fruit.

Our patience is beginning to pay off. A peach made it to maturity this year and was excellent. And we are currently harvesting figs in abundance.

This is one of the first pumpkin blossoms of the season. I did not intend to plant pumpkins in May, but the starts came up in the compost heap from last year's Jack-o'-lanterns.

As you can see there is already bug damage and I found adults and eggs within the plants. I removed all the diseased leaves and as many of the bugs as I could find. I gave all of this to the chickens for sport. I then piled some soil around the base of the plant with hopes that it will increase the root system.

I will need to continue checking all squash species for this bug and remove them quickly else the entire plant will die off in a hurry.
