We were honored to have a visit from our National Commander, Dan Wiley, along with "Bo" Durham (NC Department Commander), Departmant Division 1 Commander David Sammons and Dept Adjutant Mark Cauble. Every year in November (in place of our monthly general meeting) we have a special function dinner to celebrate and appreciate our AMAZING spouses and girlfriends for putting up with us throughout the year. The event is hosted by Angie Picton and Mark Teel in the log home of our deceased member Gunnery Sergeant James Walley. The meal is catered by Mission BBQ and a delicious way to end the Legion year. We also will not be meeting in December to give Santa his chance to shine and to emphasize the "Reason for the Season!" The next meeting will be on January 27, 2026.

Veterans Day is always a very special day for Post 289 and 2025 is no exception. Hundreds of dedicated Ayden citizens along with the Ayden school student chorusters braved the "cold" and wind to celebrate and pay tribute to our fallen soldiers. Our commander, Jerry Taylor, and Eddie Briones (Sgt-at-Arms) presented the COMBAT LOSS ROLL CALL that included 18 names from World War I, World War II, Vietnam War and Middle East Conflicts. "May God Rest Their Souls!" RIP

Sept 16-21, 2025

As the #1 Program of The American Legion "Be The One" mission strives to end veteran su***de, we have joined forces with Columbia University to develop training for those who want to learn more about interacting and responding with veterans who may be in crisis. We encourage EVERYONE to take this training, which will be available virtually, and share the training with their communities.
