TEPHINET Founded in 1997, TEPHINET is the global network of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs).

Founded in 1997, Training Programs in Epidemiology & Public Health Interventions Network (TEPHINET) is the global network of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs). With a secretariat based at The Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, TEPHINET comprises more than 75 programs working across more than 100 countries to train "disease detectives" in disease surveillance and outbreak response. More than 20,000 FETP trainees have graduated from a TEPHINET member program. Our vision is that all people are protected by a field epidemiology workforce capable of detecting and responding to health threats. Our mission is to develop, connect, and mobilize a global field epidemiology workforce to strengthen public health systems and advance health security.

A shout-out 📣 to the 19 public health professionals across eight South American Network of Field Epidemiology Training Programs (REDSUR) countries who completed the Emergency Response training in Montevideo, Uruguay (Sept 8–10, 2026).

Featuring a U.S. CDC-developed curriculum adapted for the region and logistical support from TEPHINET, this initiative expands on the inaugural workshop in Colombia (42 participants). The initiative aims to strengthen regional preparedness by expanding the network's pool of deployable health responders.

Singapore’s National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) celebrates its 7th anniversary this year on Sep 7, 2026. It also happens to fall on 2026 ! NCID has launched the NCID Academy, which will be offering academic clinical programmes in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University’s Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine to bridge the clinical and epidemiological for multisectoral training of professionals.

To commemorate this occasion, NCID offers, with its compliments, a pdf copy of the handbook, "Survivor School for Infectious Disease Outbreaks", by NCID Academy. This handbook celebrates our common human values in outbreaks and is intended to be a blueprint of what we call “NextGen Workforce Development.”

In June 2025, an outbreak investigation was initiated after a wild animal-transmitted, multi-species rabies cluster was reported in the hill ranges of Central India. In May 2026, a response was initiated following an international travel-related hantavirus event in South Africa. The team collected, reviewed, and analyzed surveillance and contact-tracing data to prepare regular, real-time situational reports for senior decision-makers. Through early detection, rapid monitoring, and seamless multi-sector coordination, they successfully contained the threat and prevented local transmission. 🇿🇦

In June 2026, Pakistan FELTP graduate, Dr. Fahad Ahmed Memon and colleagues responded to a suspected foodborne disease outbreak, identifying a common exposure among positive cases that allowed the team to implement immediate public health measures.

The rapid public health response, paired with community education and coordination across teams not only helped contain the outbreak at hand, but generated valuable evidence to improve preparedness for future outbreaks of foodborne disease.
