Webinar: The Pressure to be Perfect and Its Unintended Consequences
We are raising our children in complicated times where performance is valued over character. In such a competitive world, parents, educators and leaders are unwittingly passing on to their children pressure to be perfect. In turn, our children are feeling inadequate, anxious, overwhelmed, stressed, scared and tired. This talk is designed to address how we arrived at this place and what we can do about it.

Webinar: Boots on the Ground Parenting: Raising Children with Grit and Resilience

Our primary and overriding responsibility as a parent is to raise children so they can thrive without us. Ever feel like you don’t know what you’re doing? Join the crowd! These are difficult and unprecedented times that require a boots on the ground mentality. We need to pay more attention to what we know and less to what we don’t. We know a lot much of which we have lost sight of in this crazy mixed-up world. Come ground yourself in the basic of parenting and learn practical tools you can apply immediately to positively change the course of your children’s lives.

GIVING THANKS – this month of THANKSGIVING

We are almost 3 months into the school year, and we are all so thankful for making it this far. The staff have been challenged with accommodating so many different needs this year, and continue to do a wonderful job.

The PTO is unable to show our school appreciation through our traditional efforts this year like providing lunch and snacks. During this month of giving thanks, we are reaching out with some suggestions as to how we as a community, can show our thanks and appreciation for all that the faculty and staff are doing.
It is a difficult time for all of us in this world. We hope that you will help us spread the gratitude, and thanks this season.
- Tape a note or message to your car window for the staff that greet us each morning
- Send a note to one of your child’s teachers
- Have your child send an e-mail to a teacher
- Don’t forget our front office and custodial staff who continue to take great care of our school and students

You can locate staff names in the directory on the AMS website.
Emails are a staff members first initial, last name, then: avon.k12.ct.us
(Ex: [email protected])
Thank you for all you continue to do to help keep our community healthy, and our children in school – we are thankful.

Be and stay well -

AMS Parents:

Some of you may have attended the free zoom presentation from Internet Safety Concepts last night. It has come to our attention, that Scott’s presentation was hacked. All parties involved apologize for the unfortunate incident. This was completely out of both the presenter Scott Driscoll, and the sponsoring companies control.

It is an excellent reminder for all of us on the dangers of the internet. All involved apologize for the offensive language and pictures that were shown. Clearly the intent of this program was to educate and inform our parents around the dangers of technology, and we were as shocked and surprised as all of you that the presentation was hacked.

We’ve been in contact with Scott regarding the student presentation this evening and he is working with the companies sponsoring this event to ensure security for all.

Please reach out to Dawn Zavalishin with any questions or concerns – [email protected].
